It has been over a week now since I posted on this forum that I needed a link to the 17.7.0.12 binary, as running liveupdate to merely install the patch over an older NIS version disables all my Excel password protected macros on Windows7.
I have had to turn liveupdate off for over a week now and I am concerned about my growing exposure to internet risks the delay lengthens.
Are any Symantec staff able to put up a link?
If not, how much longer must I wait?
I have burnt about 7 hours on this recurring patch problem on this release alone.
Hello unbelivable
Sorry that you are waiting so long for a link. As soon as one becomes available, there will be an announce above these thread listings. Also today is a holiday in the US, so there is a skeleton crew around in the forum.
HI ubbelivable
You could download and install new virus definitions each day via Intelligent Updater to keep yourself better protected until such time as a full product file for 17,7.0.12 becomes available.
The defintions file can be downloaded from here - choose the appropriate one for your product and OS.
http://www.symantec.com/business/security_response/definitions/download/detail.jsp?gid=n95
The beginninng of the file name is YYYYMMDD (year, month, day) so that you can ascertain the date of the file available and hence see when a new file is ready (daily).
Thanks for that link. has resolved the warnings for now.
I dont suppose, due to these recurring NIS patch bugs, that Symantec would considering splitting the liveupdate functions of the binary and the definitions downloads?
That would enable users like myself to keep the liveupdate for definitions working, and disable the binary liveupdate so I dont have to have a 3 week outage every three months and I can escape from this crusty cage of a life as a Symantec software guineapig?
**bump**
Three weeks now and a complete binary is still not available to users who have been taken down by the patch 17.7.0.12?
What is the problem, does this version have a bug in it that cannot be released to users?
(listens to the wind whistling on the plain of the apocalypse, deserted by Symantec staff)
Some fact seems missing in this discussion. I Also have NIS version updated to 17.7.0.-----I believe.12, and no problems in definitions updates seem to occur; minute-by-minute updates happen throughout a computer usage session.
Windows XP Home Edition, updated to S.P.3,
Norton Internet Security 2010, originally version 17.something.*.*
Product update downloaded and installed to version 17.7.0.something.
(Currently in usage session on a different computer)
Any news on this? If the installer is out please point me in the right direction.
HI MellonCollie
The installer is not yet out. The current full installer is 17.6.0.32 which would need updated via liveupdate to 17.7.0.12 once installed.
