Which product would you recommend for an advanced user, ie..does regular backups, uses utilities to clean PC, (running WXPs2)?
Would you recommend NIS or 360?
The add on pack I download is antispam component only. I like this feature.
Don't need parental controls now.

It's reasonably fair to say that up to the 2006 versions of our products, we were adding features at the expense of performance. Everything we have done since then has been done with performance in mind. NIS 2007 was faster than 2006, and in turn NIS 2008 is faster than 2007. Likewise N360 2.0 is less intrusive than 1.0.
We are not compromising security to enhance performance. We are listening to feedback and making intelligent decisions about what needs to be there for everyone, vs. what some people need for specific reasons. All this, plus some hefty code optimization.

I have always used NIS products. This year I downloaded the Norton 360 trial version. I find it similar to NIS 2007, but it has clean up and back up options which I do myself anyway. Don't want to pay extra for this. I tried to download the NIS 2008 trial version to compare the "time hog", as NIS 2008 claims to perform faster than previous versions. Norton 360 seems to perform faster than previous versions of NIS that I have used.
I am unable to download the NIS 2008 trial version, because I get a message saying "I have Norton 360 installed which has similar properties".
Does anyone know a way around this? Do I have to delete Norton 360 trial?
or Does anyone know the answer to my question? Is NIS 2008 as slow as NIS 2007?
thank you in advance
Hi Lio,
If you're already doing the tune-up and backup work using other apps (I hope I am understanding your request correctly), I would definately go for NIS rather than N360.

Thank you JamesB. You have understood my request. I appreciate your input.
I need antivirus, firewall, (updates of course), ability to control firewall (make more secure), add antispam, (turn off parental controls). I do regular PC clean ups, getting rid of clutter and do not need to be reminded (which I find annoying with N360 windows...likely can be turned off). I also want reputable source. Have used Norton in the past, never had a problem.

What are exactly the components you really need?
Than still the best thing is N360.
It really has it all
Hi lio,
I'm afraid that NIS and N360 can't coexist on the same machine (unless you have virtual machines set up in VMWare or the likes).
I'll give you a short and a long answer to the NIS 2008 vs. NIS 2007 question
Short Answer: NIS 2008 is faster than NIS 2007
Longer answer: It's reasonably fair to say that up to the 2006 versions of our products, we were adding features at the expense of performance. Everything we have done since then has been done with performance in mind. NIS 2007 was faster than 2006, and in turn NIS 2008 is faster than 2007. Likewise N360 2.0 is less intrusive than 1.0.

The add-on pack concept is a case in point (your choice to add free features, at the expense of a little performance):
1) Not everyone has kids, so not everyone needs parental controls that need to download large updates quite frequently.
2) A lot of people have antispam services implemented at their ISPs (often leveraging Symantec's Brightmail technology in the background). There is a lot to be said for multilayer protection, but if you don't get a lot of spam, perhaps you don't need this option.
