It may help to know what versions of Windows and Service packs you have on each PC but I suspect the problem with backing up from N360 might be whether N360 will back up to an external drive or not. I've an idea it will not.
However another aspect is whether you have set up sharing correctly between the two laptops, regardless of N360. Can you see the drives and access the files from one to the other when you look at Network Connections? If not then you need to address the sharing and it would not be a Norton situation.
