NIS 2009 causing apoint.exe cpu usage to fluctuate

Hi, I'm just installed NIS 2009 16.2.0.7 and it's causing apoint.exe (alps touchpad) 3-22% cpu usage fluctuations consistently when idle or doing anything else. When I uninstall NIS, apoint.exe cpu usage goes back to 0%. I've already tried reinstalling NIS twice, both using NRT and it's still doing the same thing. I have all the latest updates for Windows XP sp3. I used to use Charter Internet Security Suite (uninstalled of course).

 

It also caused nvsvc32.exe (nvidia driver helper) cpu usage to fluctuate but around 10%, but I fixed it with a driver update through Dell's website. 

 

I'm guessing it's a driver issue through alps touchpad, but Dell's latest alps driver (5.4.101.4) for my Inspiron 9300  is already installed.

 

Anyone have any ideas to keep NIS from making apoint.exe cpu usage high?

 

Here's my system specs:

Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop

Windows xp media center edition 2002 SP3

Intel Pentium M 1.86ghz

1gb ram

I’m assuming a typo in the driver version as the newest one seems to be 5.4.104.  Even at that the driver was released in 2006.  I think that it is not so much a case of Norton causing issues as the touchpad driver causing issues, in which case it will be necessary for you to deal with Dell to see if they have newer touchpad software.

I doubt they are going to release a driver update for my alps touchpad. I think it’s norton’s responsibility to fix since apoint.exe works fine with other antivirus programs.
