NIS 2009 in the Security History, Alert Summary is reporting, repeatedly, that NIS is blocking unauthorized access and NIS is deleteing a Registry Key.

Is anyone seeing this? I d/led the ccleaner.exe from the developers webiste.

Thanks

I have them both running and both run great.

Is it just a error or do you feel and see any problems?

I use CCleaner. My Mother uses CCleaner. My Aunt uses CCleaner. My Sisters use CCleaner. My Girl Friend uses CCleaner and my Counsin uses CCleaner. We all use NIS 2009 with no issues. What may be happeing is that NIS is blocking CCleaner by default cause you probablly have Automatic Program Control on. In this mode NIS makes all discesions for you. When ever I set up NIS 2009 on a machine I switch off Automatic Program Control and tuen on Adavnced Event Monitoring. You will now get prompts for all your applications. You should get a pop up about CCleaner so just allow it.

Diesel, aren't there any men in your life?  Or do they refuse to use CCleaner?

What kind of comment is that. My Cousin is a guy and my best friend. The only man in my life is my soccer super start Son who is almost 10.

Well, my soccer superstar son is almost 13, so I guess they'll never meet on the field.

Okay, I apologize for being off-topic.  Enough fooling around.

Regarding using firefox instead of IE, have you ever tried any of those symantec chat help sessions on Firefox?  You can't do it.

Do the popus occur ALL the time?  Or is it a one time thing?

I hate being asked the same question time and time again...

No its a one time thing. NIS asks you if you want to allow or block a certain program. Once you click allow thats it. Sometimes there are 3 pop ups for the same program like Firefox but each is about a different connection. After that no more alerts unless you update that program. I would rather get alerts cause then I know NIS is working and protecting me. I like having control of whats going on. Once all your programs are learned then no more alerts.

Sounds like CCleaner is trying to clean out some registary entries that are off-limits. The key really looks like a Norton-related key. I would just ignore it and let Norton decide what is best.

I run CCleaner on an every day basis and never got that alert or even in history. The registry cleaner in CCleaner doesn’t run all the time unless you want it to and it is separate from the cleaner itself. I only use the registry cleaner after uninstalling something. I just ran the registry cleaner and no message like stated. Do you have any old traces of Norton from a previous version left around?

Although I'm grateful for the comments, I'm at a loss to understand the emotionalism.

The auto update on ccleaner is turned off and the activity I mentioned occurs at random times as the pc is always on.

Just ignore the message frrom NIS2009.

I use CCleaner with NIS2009 in auto mode and all works fine.

NIS2009 may display several unauthorized access messages for many programs. The only thing this means is that those programs in one way or the other try to access, remove or modify certain (temp)files or registry key that are protected by Norton. It's part of the NIS2009 self-protection mechanism, it's blocks all access or modifications made by 3rd party programs to NIS2009 that do not belong to Norton.

In your case that may mean:

- CCleaner wants to clean-up temp files that are protected by Norton.

- CCleaner wants to access certain registry keys that are protected by Norton.
