I just upgraded to NIS 2009 after receiving a notice with 183 day left on my 2008 subscription. After upgrading my 183 days were lost and reset to 365 days. Previously Norton would always add the current time and renewal together. How do I get my remaining 6 months added to my 2009 subscription?
Just figured out the SCAM, Norton considers going from NIS 2008 to NIS 2009 an upgrade not a renewal. So they started my time over and so I lost 6 months of my subscription. Even though they are the ones sending me emails saying it is time to upgrade. I hope they get sued again…SCAM SCAM SCAM… what a bunch of gypsies ripping people off. I wish I could get my money back, uninstall and then buy switch. I normally am pretty wise to all the internet ripoffs, but Norton sure did a good job hooking me.

That is not correct. Many people here have "updated" to NIS 2009 from 2008 without issue. There are a lot of variables here; i.e. Did you enter a new activation key? If so then the program looks at it as new account and will reset the days.
That is why I suggested Customer Service Online. They can review your history and make the appropriate adjustments.

Totally wrong. That is not how the process works. Talk to the customer rep and you will be helped, but I suggest you do so without the chip on your shoulder.
And, uh, "gypsies"? I sense a certain cultural confusion here.
If you've finished screaming at people and would like some help please pay attention to what other people here are saying to you.
How your balance of time on an older version is treated when you upgrade to NIS2009 depends on how you upgrade. This has been set out here by Symantec Staffers.
If you contact customer support and explain politely what happened (not how you feel about it) I will be very surprised if they cannot sort it out.

If that does not resolve it come back and say so and likely there is someone here in the background who can help straighten it out.
PS If you bought your copy of 2009 in a store/internet in the last 60 days then you can get your money returned and start over again in the way that works which does not involve buying a copy of 2009 at all until your 2008 subscription expires.
Here is the information as recieved from Tony_Weiss, a Norton administrator explaining why, when I upgraded to 2009 my subscription time from 2008 is lost.

Upgrade - An Upgrade is an updated or more comprehensive solution that provides features and/or technologies not included in the Norton product that you are currently using. When you purchase an Upgrade, you get a new subscription for one or two years (depending upon the Upgrade you purchase) to use the more comprehensive product. Your new subscription period will begin when you activate the Upgrade product by entering the Upgrade activation key during the product installation process. Time remaining from your previous subscription is not added to the new Upgrade subscription time.
Example: You are a Norton AntiVirus 2008 user, and you purchase Norton Internet Security 2009. When you install this Upgrade, your new subscription period will begin, and any time remaining from your Norton AntiVirus 2008 subscription will not be added to your Norton Internet Security 2009 subscription.

Upgrade is changing from one product line to another such as NAV to NIS.
Your earlier post stated you changed from NIS 2008 to NIS 2009 (same product line).
Your situation is considered an update for which there is no charge.
Depending upon how you activated, your remaining subscription days may have been temporarily lost, but contacting Customer Service at the links provided should resolve this issue.

I will further explain what Phil is saying, just to make sure you (the original poster) understands.
The original product on your computer was only an Antivirus Program. You could have upgraded this product for free to the 2009 antivirus program (that service is build into the subscription process). Instead, you added a whole new piece of software: a Firewall program. So you were "upgrading" from Antivirus to Anvirus + Firewall. You have no entitlement to a Firewall program because you didn't previous own one.
I bet you can return NIS 2009 and revert to NAV 2009 for free, but then you would be without a Firewall program. I don't recommend it, but if the $20 or so you save is important to you, that may be what you need to do. Of course, if you are one of the many who bought NAV 2008 for almost free (after rebates), then it wouldn't come to any savings at all, would it.
