Installed NIS2009 last Tuesday - clean install after complete removal of NIS2008.
Running XP-Pro SP2, IE 7, NIS2009 ver 16.2.0.7, no other security software.
I shut down at the end of my usage (normally once, occasionally twice per day) and boot up for each new usage.
Everything appears to be OK (get the secure green with checkmark) after each boot up, but I noted that about every 5th or so boot up (no specific time or sequence), Intrusion Prevention being enabled does not appear in the Security History - Intrusion Prevention section.
Normally the History section records 3 entries: 1) Intrusion Prevention has been enabled 2) Intrusion Prevention engine version, etc. 3) Intrusion Prevention is monitoring 1336 signatures, driver version 9.0.3.10.
The NIS program itself does not indicate anything different whether these history items show up or not, the program indicates a green secure and checkmark within the program itself and in the taskbar icon.
When the history entry does not show up, I have even manually turned off the Intrusion Prevention button (program warns against this and turns red after I do it, history logs that Intrusion Prevention has been disabled), then manually turned it back on (program goes back to secure and green check, history logs show Intrusion Prevention has been enabled).
So is this just a History log recording glitch, or do I have cause for a security concern when this entry does not show up in the History log ????
Is there any way to view an actual running program or process to see if indeed Intrusion Prevention is actually running??
I would hope that the "all secure" program icons are the true test of what is working, vs having to check the history log, but then who knows.
Someone pls advise.
