Hi all, I have read several threads that are similar to my problem and have followed the advice given, but so far nothing has worked.
I have three computers (2 desktops and 1 laptop) with this same problem. All three were upgraded from previous version of NIS and all worked fine until the first reboot. After that the systray icon does not load and LiveUpdate will not run, but the NIS service is running. When I try to start the program by clicking the NIS 2009 shortcut in the Programs list I get the 8504,4 message.
As I said above I have followed the advice given in other threads and by that I mean I have done this ...
Delete all Symantec Related Files:
- All Users/Symantec Temp. Files
- All Users/Symantec
- All Users/Norton
- All Users/Norton Installer
- start>run>regedit>HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software>delete "Norton" and "Symantec"
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>delete "Norton" and "Symantec"
Repeat steps 1-4 for all users on your computer. For Steps 5-6, make sure that you are on your local administrator account. Then:
- Run Norton Removal Tool.
- Boot in Safe Mode and run the Norton Removal Tool, again
- Install NIS09.
I also ran CCleaner and the CCleaner registry cleaner before installing NIS 2009 again.
After all of that the result has not changed and NIS still does not load properly. I can manually start it by clicking Run and entering "C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\Engine\16.2.0.7\ccSvcHst.exe" /c /a /s UserSession. The icon appeared in the systray and I can then run LiveUpdate. After all updates were installed I rebooted and again no icon in the systray and LiveUpdate still won't run.
I don't know what else to do and have already called Norton, which was unfortunately a waste of time. The tech worked on one of the computers remotely for about an hour and then left me a message on the screen saying it was fixed. When I rebooted I saw that it was not fixed at all.
Any ideas?
