I recenlty switched from DSL to Time Warner Roadrunner as my ISP. Since the switch my desktop computer (Windows 7 Home Premium running NIS 2009), which is wired to the modem/router (Netgear CGD24G) cannot see my laptop (Windows 7 Professional running NAV version 18.5.0.125, wireless connection to the router). They can both reach the internet but they cannot see each other at all. What adjustments can I make so that these 2 computers can see each other? Thank you.
I would suggest to upgrade to 2011 build. If you want to upgrade nis 2011.save your key to safe place
download nis 2011 here and save it to your hard disk
www.norton.com/nis11
uninstall nis 2009 from control panel then run nis 2011 installer after that activate though your existing license
run live update rapidly until no update are available
I don't see the need for uninstalling for this particular issue. Since you can see the other computer in your network maps, click edit and set them both to full trust. Check the sharing settings in both computers.
But he using nis 2009
The problem will continue in the 2011 version. He will be no further ahead. Let's fix the issue first
Thanks. But I think I just stumbled upon the answer. My desktop was wired, the laptop wireless. I just changed the wired pc to wireless (bought a wireless adapter) and tah-dah! Now they happily see each other.
Shouldn't have pointed an accusatory finger at Norton. Mea culpa.
Thanks for your help!
Since you have successfully solved your original problem, you are eligible to upgrade to 2011 version for free. Save your identity safe logins, and follow the directions provided to upgrade your Norton. 2011 is vastly superior to the 2009 versions.
Free upgrade to the 2011 version? Where are the directions provided to upgrade? Also, In my Norton account it says I have Norton Internet Security, which expires on 2/2/2012. And is says I have protection for 3 PCs and remaining activations for 2 PCs. Does that mean I can install this on 2 other computers? I do have 2 other subscriptions to NAV, one that expires on 3/19/2011 and one that expires on 8/20/2011. Can I replace those with my 2 remianing activations of NIS? And is that true even if I get this free 2011 upgrade you mentioned?
Hi cltmmm:
Heavengod provided the link and instructions for NIS2011 in the second post. Back up your identity safe logins and log out of identity safe before uninstalling via add remove. Because you have 2009, I recommend running the removal tool to clear out leftovers. Then install the 2011 version. It should pick up your key automatically, or you can click on Support>check subscription status.
You can do the same thing to your other machines, but you must run the removal tool when replacing the NAV versions with NIS. They are different products. In doing so, they will all expire on 2/2/2012. You will lose the subscription time on the other machines.
edit for removal tool:
