Hello,
I am trying to get NIS installed and running properly on a mutliple user account XP (home) machine. This has never been a problem with NIS 2006, 2007 or 2008.
NIS2009 installs properly on a user account with administrator priviledge. However, it seems I now must log out of any active account in order for NIS to boot and be able to run on any other account (administror, or limited use). I can no longer "switch users", which was never an issue in all previous versions of NIS. As long as I log out of all accounts, NIS will load and run correctly on any admin or limiteduse account, as long as no other user account is also logged in. It is no longer possible to use the "switch user" option and have NIS running correctly for two logged in users at once.
I called Symantec, and sharie a remote control session with them for over 3 hours, and went through many gyrations of running the removal tool, reinstalling NIS2009, etc. We even re-installed NIS2008 so that the rep could see that 2008 had no problem switching users without first logging out.
Finally, the rep simply gave up and suggested I continue using 2008, but would not confirm that this a serious bug in the product. Having to log out of any active session in order to log in to get NIS working in another session is a serious issue that leaves the machine vulnerable to virus and firewall issues. Having to log out and log back in a serious performance hit that is simply unacceptable. Also, there is no real indication that NIS is not loaded, except that the tray icon never shows up, and if I try to run NIS from the desktop icon, it never runs, but, eventually pops up a window with an error code that indicated that I need to run the removal tool, and reinstall (which I did on my own, and with the Symantec rep, with no success).
Symantec, is this a known bug in the 2009 product that will be fixed, or do I need to give up on NIS and look elsewhere?
Thank you.
