NIS 2009 really messes up Firefox! [edit: partial solution found]

EDIT: so, if I disable  "identity safe", all problems cease. This is only a partial solution, a full solution would be Symantec fixing it. PLEASE FIX!!! GGRRRR!! I reinstalled Windows twice, and wasted at least 10 hours trying to figure this out. GRRR! BITEFACE!! :smileyindifferent:

Hi,

Long story, really weird issues.

NIS 2009 v16.2.0.7

Vista x64

I am having this terrible issue with Firefox, and I have 100% confirmed the issue only happens whe NIS2009 is running as a service.

The issue:

  1. cannot use back/forward buttons in browser(the actually buttons in Firefox cease to function completely)
  2. cannot use back/forward on Logitech mouse
  3. cannot use middle click to close tabs on Logitech mouse
  4. cannot right click a link and hit "open in new tab", ceases to function, does nothing
  5. tabs actually get lock into the tab bar, cannot close them, cannot view them, have to crashFirefox to get rid of them
  6. typing in the address bar overwrites tabs when it is not supposed to, and the settings in Firefox are set to open new tab, typing new address just keeps overwriting the current tab
  7. middle click, back/forward work fine in Internet Explorer

This is a nightmare because I cannot search this site for help very easliy. I do a search, then click a link to a thread, it overwrites the current tab. If no help in there, I have to close the tab and start again because "back" does not function. GRR!

I can replicate all of the above issues every time I enable NIS.

This only started recently, and I think when NIS had a major update. After messing with it for an entire day, I formated my drive and reinstalled Windows.

After installing mouse/keyboard/video drivers. I installed NIS and Firefox. Then began testing again. Same thing! Bah!

So I one by one disbaled startup programs in MSCONFIG. After all were disabled, and the problem persisted, I disabled NIS from the services tab and rebooted. Problem SOLVED.

My test: type addresses in to address bar, to open 4 different tabs. Then try middle-click on one to close it. Works, mess around and middle click all tabs to test further.

Then, re-enable NIS service, reboot. Problem is BACK! Open 4 tabs again, cannot middle click any tabs. Have to manually open new tabs using right-click because the address bar is not working.

I try disabling/enabling NIS service and testing 2 more times to be certain.

Keep in mind, the entire time my updated Logitech mouse software is running, so it cannot be that. There is obviously a major incompatibility between NIS2009 (latest version) and Firefox v3.0.4/5 and/or Logitech mice. But NIS is definitely at the center of the issue, and only since the update.

Any help is appreciated, else I might have to switch back to McAfee! :smileysad:
