I had NIS2008 previously and it got uninstalled (don't ask). My subscription is for 3 years, so I downloaded NIS2009 and installed it. Worked fine for a couple weeks. About three weeks ago I did a LiveUpdate and rebooted. NIS wouldn't start at all, and threw a message 'updates corrupted' or somesuch, 'please re-install'.
So I downloaded the removal tool and tried to re-install. Again and again. I've run the removal tool in safe mode, without all the startup stuff, etc. The NIS gets to the point where it says 'installing drivers' (the second time) and then starts to roll back. Nobody from Symantec support has asked about error logs or anything even close to that.
I have let Symantec Support connect to my laptop - and they do the same thing I have already done (and failed) - run the uninstaller, try the install, fail. I have spent many hours on this issue with no resolution.
It is a newer Dell laptop with Vista, SP1.
