NIS 2009 would not install

I attempted to install NIS 2009 on a Vista Business computer. Initially the installation went as usual and seemed to complete. It next said it was updating itself, then it said it was “Scanning…Please wait”. I’ve done a number of NIS 2009 installs, never had it do any “scanning” during or after the install. It continued scanning for about 10 minutes, then it said “Uninstalling”. That ran for about 10 minutes then it said “Norton Internet Security could not be installed. Please reboot.” After the reboot there was no sign of NIS.

Any ideas why this happened, and what to do?
