NIS 2010 - Can I delete my existing Identify Safe and create a new one in a different location?

Hello,

When I installed NIS 2010 and created my identity safe, I stored it on my local drive.  After learning that I could store it on an USB flash drive, I could not find the ability to delete the one stored on my local hard drive and start over with creating one exclusively on my USB flash drive.  Is this possible?

Thank you in advance.

Welcome,

Short of doing a control panel uninstall, and NOT saving and information, then rebooting and doing a reinstall I do not see any way to eliminate the existing local identity safe. There is a provision to copy it to another location which could be used before uninstalling so that you'd have your USB identity safe in hand when you are back up and running.

Hope this helps

Hello mkm and welcome!

I presume that you want to use a portable profile saved on the USB drive, correct?

The first step is to create the portable profile on the USB drive and confirm that it functions.

(Web Settings > Export Identity Safe Data to Portable Profile)

Even though you wish to remove the local profile from your computer, I highly suggest making a backup just in case.

To delete your local profile:

    1. Open the main NIS interface.
    2. Go to Web Settings > Identity SafeBackup Identity Safe Data > Configure [+]
    3. In the Backup Window, "Browse" to save the data onto a USB flash drive or other convenient location. Add a password for extra security.
    4. Log out of Identity Safe.
    5. Be sure the USB drive is not attached to the computer at this point.
    6. Attempt to login to your local Identity Safe Profile and delete the data by providing a wrong or empty password twice in the login window.
    7. Then, select Reset Identity Safe Password.

Thank you Dick.  I wish I could have split the "solved solution" with you and Phil!  Alas I went with Phil's solution as I could avoid a reinstall.  I appreciate your advice.

Thank you Phil.  I used your instructions and it worked great.  I appreciate your advice.

You are very welcome, mkm.

I'm glad that you were able to achieve the desired result.

I'm with you. His is the better solution. Like you I learned another useful technique.

We'll leave a light on.
