I need some help please. I have just had NIS 2010 installed. I have always been able to freely use p2p such as Utorrent and shareaza freely until now.
I have done all of the necessary things to enable P2P such as port forwarding etc and it has worked brilliantly until NIS 2010 was installed. Shareaza now has a warning that i am "behins a NAT router or firewall, and are unable to receive connections from the internet" and Utorrent tests reveal that "Port 60966 (the one set up for the last 4 years) does not appear to be open".
What do i have to do to NIS 2010 to make these programs work again?
You will have to make manual rules for the needed ports to be open. For example, to open port 60966 then make a new rule as follows:
Go to (in NIS2010) Settings > Internet Settings > Smart Firewall > Advanced Settings > General Rules > Add.
Select ADD and next.
Select "to and from" and next.
Select "any computer" and next.
Select "TCP and UDP" and "Only the ports and ....." and "Add".
Select "Individual ports", select "Local" and type in 60966" and click OK.
Click Next, Next, type in a rule name and click Next.
Click "Finish"
Select the new rule you just made from the list of general rules and move it to the top of the rules list by clicking on "Move Up" until it is the first on on the list. This will apply this rule before any other rules.
Test your Utorrent connection Test then. If you feel there are too many rules to make, try turning the "Stealth Blocked Ports" to off and test the programs again.
When I installed NIS 2010, I didn't have to do anything to get µTorrent working. NIS created the firewall rules itself and everything worked perfectly.
Just to check, do you have automatic program control in the firewall turned on?
Also, you could try resetting the firewall, there is an option to do that, but don't do it if you have any custom firewall rules, as they will be deleted.
Along with all the above suggestions, you can also check the status of Shareaza/Utorrent clients under the Program Rules list in Smart Firewall settings. It should be set to ALLOW.
yes i do. i figured i would just use this thread instead of making a new 1 when its basically the same problem. It still says my ports are still blocked
If you feel that your problem has been solved, please mark the appropriate post showing which post gave you the answer. This way others will know that it has been solved. Thanks
