NIS 2010 not updating

I just had to remove and reinstall NIS 2010 for the umpteenth time.  Now in Firefox 3.6.3 I get a message that Norton Toolbar 4.0 and IPS 2.0 are not compatible. I've had FireFox 3.6.3 since it came out and Norton Toolbar was working perfectly until NIS 2010 stopped running today or last night, so I know that the Toolbar should be compatible.

I've got Norton NIS 2010 17.1.0.9 English but I see here that the latest is 17.6.xxxx and here that I should update to 17.5.  Again, I just reinstalled NIS 2010 a few minutes ago--why do I have an old version?  I've run LiveUpdate, and I also downloaded and ran AutoDetectPkg.exe from that second link above, and it said I had the latest version available.  How do I update to the latest version of NIS 2010 and how do I get Toolbar working again?

A couple of larger questions:

Is Norton going to address this problem of needing to repeatedly remove and reinstall NIS?  The fact that a product that's supposed to protect us can't even protect itself from getting corrupted doesn't inspire much confidence--a lot of us see that the products on other computers we use, even free stuff like Avast, doesn't have this problem--and believe me we'll remember that when it's time to decide whether to buy a new subscription to Norton.

Are you customer service folks going to start telling customers that they can back up their identity safe info before removing and reinstalling NIS so they don't have to rebuild their identity safes from scratch?  Knowing that would save the customer a lot of bother.
