Last night I had a problem with the latest version of NIS 2010 on my HP 2133 Mini-Note with Windows 7 HP.
When I clicked on the NIS notification area icon, a taskbar generic program icon labeled Norton Internet Security opened (that blank page icon), but the UI window did not. The only way I could access the NIS UI was to restart. This happened three times in the next half-hour.
When I tried to restart with no UI, just before shutdown I got a Windows message, something about forced closing. I checked the Windows and NIS error logs, and only got App Hang and something like Access-Termination messages, respectively.
Also, during two hangups, I ran One Click Support. Both times it took about 10 minutes to complete. Once it told me all appeared normal, the other that Antispyware was turned off even though I had green Secure status in the taskbar and in the UI when I did get it open.
Anyway, I uninstalled NIS, restarted, ran the Norton Removal Tool, restarted, and reinstalled NIS. A quick check this morning appears normal.
By the way: this netbook is rarely on the internet (just for updates, etc), and the only thing that is new is I've been playing a full screen game that invokes Silent Mode alot. That has been woking fine, though.
Any ideas?
