NIS 2011 Can't Connect to network proxy server

Can anyone help? I don't know what my URL , Adress , and Port . help please

Hi Daniell100,

Welcome to the Norton Community. What OS and SP do you have and is it 32 or 64 bit?

Can you tell us a little more information about what you need to do? Are you sure you need to have proxy server settings? Where are you connecting from? Is it a home network, school, public library or what? Most home networks will not need a proxy server configured.

NIS has settings for this in Misc Settings > Network Proxy Settings. If you really do need a proxy server configured then the administrator should be able to give you the information about what settings to use.

We might be able to help more if you give us more information on this.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.

Allen

well its a 32 bit OS? SP im not so sure where i can find that . It's a home newtwork-Wifi- .

It dosn't? but when NIS 11 said my computer was at risk and i clicked fix now the Norton live update was unable to connect to the proxy server .

Hi Daniell100,

Can you check to see if you have any proxy settings in NIS? You can find this by clicking Settings from main NIS window, then Misc. Settings and then Network Proxy Settings.

I would not think your home network would need a proxy. Check that everything is blank on the Network Proxy Settings window as depicted in the image below.

Also, are you able to browse online via IE? Are you having any other network connectivity problems?

If you do decide to post any images of your own from the Proxy settings be sure to blank out any references to personal information such as IP address, username, etc.

Best wishes.

I don't have any proxy settings , I tried to click autodetect proxy settings but that didnt work either . I tried browsing in IE and it seems that its not working as well as msn and other games .

Daniell100:

Also check in IE under Tools>Internet options>connections>Lan settings to make certain that Windows hasn't been set to proxy.  Has your machine had any kind of infection recently?

ok , well IE is working . thanks . But that didnt solve my other problem though .

infections.. trojan?

Do the proxy settings in IE differ from those in Norton?  If everything is unchecked in Norton, it should be the same in IE.

HI Daniell100,

Did you check your proxy settings in NIS? It us under Settings > Misc. Settings > Network Proxy Settings. It should have everything blanked out like the image I attached in my above post.

The error message being reported would seem to indicate that NIS has proxy settings configured.

Best wishes.

Allen

Yea , everything is unchecked with IE and Norton's proxy settings .

well if the error message did , why isn't it fix yet . weird .

Hi Daniell100,

Thanks for the update. It would appear then that something has become corrupted with your NIS 2011 installation.

A couple of other questions. Do you have any other security software installed on your computer besides NIS? Do you have any other unusual problems your computer? Anything such as strange and unexpected pop-ups when browsing, etc?

If this is the only symptom of any issues on your computer I would recommend reinstalling NIS with the use of the Norton removal tool. If you do have other unusual problems please let me know before proceeding with the procedure below.

If you use Identity Safe you should back up this data first. Please see this link for details on how to do this.

Before you use the removal tool, please download the full version of NIS 2011 from here. Please note that this is the English version so please let me know if you need a different language and I will provide the appropriate link.

Once you have downloaded NIS, you can proceed with use of the removal tool as indicated below.

Please NOTE that this removes ALL Symantec products so be sure to have your license keys ready as you will need to reinstall all your Symantec software products. You can get your Norton product key from your Norton Account.

Once done please download the Norton Removal Tool from Symantec from this link.

For your protection, disconnect from the Internet before continuing.

Do a conventional uninstall of NIS via the Control Panel and then restart your computer.

Run the Norton Removal Tool and once it is completed, please reboot your computer. Once up please run the Removal Tool one more time and once again reboot.

Then please install NIS 2011 from the full version downloaded earlier. Once installed please reconnect back to the Internet and run Live Update repeatedly (rebooting as requested) until it reports there are no more updates.

Hope this helps and please let us know how it goes.

Best wishes.

Allen
