NIS 2011 + IDM Virus Scanner & Command Line Parameters

Is there a command line for Norton File Insight?  Page 150 of the NIS User Guide gives the command line and options for scanning a file or files, but I can find nothing about how to determine the File Insight results from a command line.  Searching through the Forums has not turned up anything.  Thanks for any help you can give me.

jrbull99, hi and welcome. You do have the facility to check a specific file, by going to the Performance Tab on your Norton interface, and clicking onto Norton Insight. At the bottom right hand corner, you can click onto Check a Specific File, for more information.

Thanks, but what I'm looking for is a command that I could use on a command line rather than from within the NIS application, itself.

My problem is this:  the file manager I use does not provide the same context menu that the Windows File Explorer does.  I can add commands to the context menu... but I have to know what command to give!  The Windows File Explorer context menu provides both a malware file scan and (if the file is an executable) File Insight Scan.  The former is a call to NAV32.exe, as outlined in the NIS User Manual.  But what is the call for a File Insight Scan???

Is this the sort of thing you're looking for ?

Yes, except those commands refer only to anti-virus scans -- NOT to File Insight!  The ones you refer to are the same as those found in the User Guide.

Maybe one of the Symantec people could help you here, or possibly one of our Gurus who may have more of an in depth knowledge, and can answer your question more satisfactorily. Anyone ?.....

Hi,

I do not know if it can be done for File Insight or if Symantec wants to release those commands but the only person who could help you for that would be definitively a Symantec product developper.

I'm sure that other users could provide some links to get you in touch via maybe email and you can express your request.

Best of luck.

Regards,

Okay, thanks very much for your help! I DO appreciate it.

I don't know how to run it from a command line and as far as I know you can't because it only supports certain browsers, download managers and bittorrent clients.

But what does it show you that a file scan doesn't?   either the file is good or bad and the command line scanner should be a better detection.

I don't use a download manager so I have no preferences between them but I'm sure you saw in the manual that FDM is listed but not IDM.
