I have a three month old clean install of Win 7 x 64 bit and upgraded from NIS 2010 to 2011 about a month ago. I also scan with Windows Defender and Malwarebytes. The computer is clean with no malware to the best of my knowledge.
Recently I performed the Symantec Security Scan which indicated the computer was responding to a ping (ICMP) and had one open port: 4567. NIS stealth ports function is turned on. I do not have a router but am connected to DSL through an Actiontec GT701 modem. I was able to eliminate the ping response by turning on the modem's firewall and blocking in/out ICMP.
Subsequent scan by both Symantec and Gibson Research Shields Up, indicate port 4567 is still open. The ping issue has been corrected, but not by NIS. Why is that one port not made stealth and why is NIS not blocking an ICMP response? Note: I can only scan with a 32 bit version of Internet Explorer 8, as I cannot load the activeX at Symantec into IE 8 x 64bit. Is this a modem issue or a Norton issue? The Norton Chat Technician was not helpful and wanted to know which "program" was I trying to create a rule for.
I was also trying to search for port status with the Windows Command Prompt "netstat," but could not find port 4567 and I'm not sure I know what the local address is for that port.
