Hewlett Packard wireless printer is not working. The smart firewall is blocking communication with the printer. If I disable it then the printer works fine.
Can anyone please help?

In the Norton Security Map, make sure that your Network Trust Level is set to "Shared" or "Full Trust" and that the printer, which may be listed as a generic device, is set to use the Network Trust Level or is also set to "Full Trust." To check these settings, use the [Edit] links for "Network Details," and click on the printer's icon to edit the device's trust level.
Thanks for the information but it didn't totally work. My document printed but then an error message popped up - HP Network Communicator has stopped working - a problem caused the the program to stop working correctly. Then my document is stuck in the print queue.
Any other suggestions?

Welcome citygirl4,
My first suggestion would be to reboot to be sure all of your settings are updated. The other suggestion would be to verify that all of your printer's drivers are current and installed. You didn't mention the model of your HP but I have two. One is all but flawless in its operation while the other is forever forgetting something - usually a driver. Keeps life interesting
Hope this helps
The printer is an HP 8500 All-in-One....I'm just puzzled with this. It's working on other computers which have either windows xp, windows 7 and mcafee. The computer that is giving me trouble is running windows vista with the norton.
I will try your suggestions...thanks!
Printer driver 14.x.x.x, the latest, should deal with this printer very well.
It is however important to leave the firewall on, when installing, so the printer driver installation can detect the Norton firewall.
There is also a msg in the installation dialog which reminds you of that.
Version 14 is really much better in dealing with firewalls than previous releases. I installed it on a lot of different wireless printers and never had a problem with Norton then.
You can first try to reinstall the wireless part of the driver again and see what happens.
On the HP site of this printer there are diagnostic programs, which you can run to maybe find the problem.
citygirl4,
Also check your network security map and be sure that the trust level for the printer is either 'shared' or 'full'.
Hope this helps
Thanks again for the help and I did check the security map and the trust level. It is "shared'. I'm going to try again.

I'm sorry but I'm not famiiar with printer driver 14 that you stated to try. What is it and where can I find it?
Citygirl4
First, start the HP Solution Center on the PC, a popup is displayed shortly first stating release number. Look at the first two digits of the version/release number. You can also look it up in the 'about' section. If the first two digits are 14, then you already have the right version.
In that case start the installation package of HP you have (CD?) and only reinstall the wireless driver again, leaving the Norton firewall on.
If not 14, then go to the HP support site and download the latest version for your printer.
First check if it's your printer, otherwise search for it and select it.
Select the right operating system from the drop-down list and take the full feature driver.
Now you first need to uninstall all HP programs from your Add/Remove Programs.
Then install the downloaded HP package, but be sure to leave the Norton firewall on.
Hope that will do.
Yes, that will do. Thank you for the descriptive instructions and I will try it!
