NIS 2011 - wrong licensing information

Hi all,

Thanks for your help in advance.

Just before X-Mass I bought a product license key on the Internet which was suppose to be for 3 years and 3 PC's. After installing and activations I only got 617 days instead of the 1095 days and I was not asked to create a new Norton account instead it opens with someone else logon prompt!

After contacting the seller he gave me a new license key and he told me that occasional he has this issue with every few of the licenses. Have no Problem with that!

Tried then to activate product with the new product key but am still only getting  today's left 562 days.

Even after a reinstall of NIS it still comes up with only 562 days.

What do I need to do to remove the current licensing information and to get my proper time frame.

It is not the 1st license I bought of this guy and had never an issue before!

Tnx

Andre

Hello bilboo969

Welcome to the Norton Community Forum

When you say you got your key from the Internet, do you mean you bought it from eBay? Or do you mean you used a keygen which is definitely against the law. It sounds to me like you got stuck with a used key. You can try calling Customer Support and see what they say. They are the ones in charge of activations, subscriptions and renewals.

Before you try customer support, please try hitting Support and Subscription Status and see if that synchronizes the right number of days. Also check the time and date on your computer.

If these things don't help, then please contact customer support via the free chat program.

This is the link for US/Can. If you need a different location, please consult your local Symantec site for the local free chat customer support link.

Please come back and let us know how you made out. Thanks.

No KeyGen! This guy sells the original activation cards and I bought already a good few of him and never had an issue! My question now is: if I renew the subscription with a new product key that he send me will this go towards the current registered norton account - which is not mine, which is someome elses and comes up automatically since I used this 1st product key!? How can I assign a new norton account - that I just manually created - to my current NIS installation so then new license key will go towards this new account / not someone elses account? Tnx so much! Andre

HI Andre,

The symptoms you are describing imply that the product key has been used by someone else, but only Customer Service can answer that question for sure so you need to contact them at the link I provied earlier.

If you are being sent a product key which has been used by someone else, it will be linked to that person's account and only Customer Service can change that but they will not likely do so since it is not "legal" to share product keys like that.

A valid product key must be one that has not been used before.

Again, Customer Service are the ones that final say in anything related to product keys and licenses.

Please let us know how it goes.

Best wishes.

Allen

Tnx for all your replies.

Spoke to Support and entering the new key that my seller just send me prompted me for new norton account detials and gave me the full 3 years.

Have a nice weekend

Andre

Hi bilboo969,

I am glad to hear that the second product key you obtained was legitimate.  Unfortunately, in many cases such as yours the endings are not so happy.  If you are sold a product key that is already owned by another individual, the only recourse that you will have is to deal with the seller of the fraudulent product key to try to recover the purchase price.  As AllenM mentioned, sometimes the buyer discovers that the license they are using is invalid when suddenly, after months of use, the product simply stops working and it cannot be restarted due to an Invalid Product Key.  After seeing many such reports, most of us have come to the point of recommending  purchasing the product only through the Symantec Store or an authorized retailer.

HI Andre,

I hope that you do not have any problems with your product key after this but as SendOfJive said, many users have had problems even months later because the product key has been used by multiple people. Hopefully this will not happen in your case and it does appear that you are OK now based on what Customer Service said.

I would highly recommend that you don't purchase a subscription this way in the future. Saving a bit of money is not worth the risk of getting a bad product key.

Best wishes.

Allen
