NIS 2013: How to automatically scan Flash Drives/Pen Drives when I connect them?

Hi, I'm a new user of Norton Internet Security, I'm currently using NIS 2013. I was a Kaspersky user until last week. Now I switched to Norton because KIS 2013 has too much problem & not usable in my 64bit windows 7.

I'm happy with my new Norton's performance, but one thing i'm missing here is a scan prompt when i connect a usb flash drive. Is there any way to configure NIS to show a scan prompt when i connect a flash drive? Let me know if any...

Hi maidul,

The first question I would like to ask you is,  how did you remove KIS?  Did you use the KIS removal tool found here - http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208279463 before you installed NIS?  Running removal tools before installing new AVs can give a clean slate to start with.

I am not sure you can configure NIS to scan as soon as a USB Flash Drive is plugged in.  Someone may correct me.  NIS will scan any program that starts running.  You can right-click a USB Flash Drive and start a Scan once you plug it in.

I hope this helps

Dave

Hi Krusty13, Thank you for your reply.

Yes, I’ve used that removal tool before installing NIS 2013.

I really need that scanning feature because it is really safe to scan a flash drive before opening it, And I cannot be that much conscious to remember a manual scan everytime I connect a usb drive.

Hi maidul,

I believe your question would fall under Auto-Protect which is explained here:

 Hope that answers your question.

Hi yank, Thank you for your reply. Now i can understand that Norton is protecting me automatically, don’t need a scan prompt like i had in my Kaspersky.

You guys are so helpful, This support makes me feel more secure & happy with Norton. I’ll write again if i face any more problem.

Though enabled by default, as an added precaution you may wish to go into "Settings" and confirm that "Removable Media Scan" is indeed "On" ...

Then you should be all okay...  :smileywink:

But I've no such option like "Early Launch Anti-Malware Protection" as I can see in your picture. Is it because I'm using a different version? My NIS version is 20.1.1.2

Same here.I've too no such option like "Early Launch Anti-Malware Protection"

Is this because of using different version or something else? I hope someone will answer

I can't find that option in N360 v6.4.0.9 either.

Here's a kb article about it.

Oh I got it, It is a function of Norton AntiVirus. But I'm using Norton Internet Security. So I couldn't find that option. Problem solved :smileyvery-happy:

I thought that too,  but check this  -  https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?docid=v73596194_NAV_Retail_2013_en_us&ct=us&entsrc=redirect_pubweb&ispid=&lg=en&product=Norton+Core&pvid=f-core-cur&version=current

This option is available only on Windows 8.

It says: This option is available only on Windows 8 !!! oh I see.

Thanks Krusty 13. That's great news.

Sorry for my delayed post-back regarding the "Early Launch" questions that were prompted by my earlier post...

If you would like to learn a little more about this new Windows 8 feature (and other Win8 security enhancements), InfoWorld did an article in August that discusses them at some length.  The article is available to view at the InfoWorld website: http://www.infoworld.com/d/security/windows-8-takes-security-the-next-level-200554

Thank you avjohnnie, That was really helpful.
