No matter I reconfigure Firewall Location Awareness current location setting as Untrusted, NIS stubbornly changes it back to Trusted after a few seconds.
I am using NIS 7.2 on a Macbook running OS X 10.11.6.

Not for nothing but Mac's do not need security. Yes there is Mac malware out there but nothing to worry about. My wife is a designer and uses nothing but Mac's. She does not use any security nor does her work. Did you read this?

There is not such screen and such settings as described in NIS 7.2.
With regards to 2nd method, the path "/Library/Application\ Support/Symantec/Settings" does not exist.
@CelsoK:
Please note that...
Location Awareness settings lets you configure the firewall settings based on the network location to which your Mac is connected.
Then, plz make sure you have a good/stable internet connection/ wireless network.
And, the below quoted methods (1 & 2) may help U out:
Method 1:
1. Delete the "Home" location that exists in your settings.
2. Restart your Mac.
3. Re-enable Location Awareness in the Norton Firewall application. From then on it should be able to recognize the differences.
Make sure when you re-enable Location Awareness that you are connected to the Internet normally, not using VPN.4. Try re-configuring Location Awareness your way.
Method 2: reset location awareness settings:
1. Disable Location Awareness in the Norton Firewall application and restart your Mac.
2. Launch the Terminal application (in Applications -> Utilities).
3. Copy and paste the following:
sudo rm -f /Library/Application\ Support/Symantec/Settings/1/com.symantec.locationawareness*
(Be sure to get everything, including the star mark).
4. Press return if required, and enter your (Mac) password when prompted.
Method 3: uninstall your NIS for Mac and reinstall it later:
For more info, you may Chat with Norton Support.
