NIS and Firefox 9

I have read the numerous claims that the patch for FireFox 9.0.1 is distributed via the LiveUpdate, but I have been at it for 2 days now and have also followed the advice of running the NRT which I did - both to no avail.  I have run LiveUpdate at least 50 times with the message no more updates, restarted the p.c., etc.  but I am not getting the Norton tool bar update for FireFox 9.0.1.  Getting pretty frustrated as I have always been an admirer of the NIS products, as has several computer site rankings have.

Help!!

Welcome,

Have you looked in FF at the extensions and determined if the Norton parts are disabled. They are by default now. This is a FF thing and not something which can be controled by Norton.

Keep us in the loop

I'm really pissed off now. The support guy said there will be fix for my problem this monday morning (today). Yes I had two our call and remote support session with the three different guys. The last one was some kind of manager. He said this is known issue and will be fixed by this monday. It's nothing to do with enabling Norton parts in FF. The problem is that version of 19.1 isn't pulling version of 19.2 anymore via LU. You need at least 19.2 to have toolbar compability with FF. It's nothing to do with FF 9.0.1 version. Toolbar doen's work FF 7.0 either if you have NIS 2012 19.1. This is known issue. So I have to wait 19.5 is available again (after they have fixed some other issues in it). It would be nice if 19.2 version was available for manual download and installation.

All I will say about this is that I am on a trial version of NIS 2012. I have 50 days remaining. From the way Symantec has handled this problem and the lack of proper answers from Symantec support in these forums I will be uninstalling NIS 2012. I won't be buying it. I had NIS 2009 and NIS 2010 and loved it. I went to Avast antivirus only and found it was really all I needed and it worked great. I received a free trial of NIS 2012 and thought what the heck. Haha. What a step down NIS 2012 is. And to be honest all I see in these forums are canned responses from Symantec support. It's like calling India for tech support and they just won't get away from their canned printed script that's in front of them. I'm so glad I didn't pay for NIS 2012. Good luck to all. I know I am just one customer. But Symantec really bungled this one. I'm going back to Avast free edition.

I share the frustrations from the previous posters, but I've been happy with NIS until the mess that started this weekend.  I hope a fix is really coming soon to get back the functionality I had last week.  There's rumors of a fix today, but I haven't seen anything official so I'm not holding my breath.  Personally, every call to Norton Supports ends in frustration, so I alway unintsall/reinstall first and then look to this forum for advice.  I'll hang in there, but Norton please give us some hope to the current issues.

I did a Live Update this evening and 19.5.0.145 was pushed to my computer.  Everything is working for me again.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Norton Internet Security\Engine64\19.5.0.145\uistub.exe

Finally the issue is fixed and everything works just fine. I now have version 19.5 instead of 19.1 and Norton toolbar. Symantec should communicate with their customers and tell what's wrong. If issue is common it should be informed.

In my last post I said I am a "happy camper." I got the Norton Toolbar working in Firefox 10 .Well, here is the lastest (sad) development.

I have two laptops.  One with XP and the other Win 7, 64 bit. Right after I got the norton toolbar working in Firefox 10 on my XP laptop (as I reported here) the XP computer developed a graphis problem so I have had to send it off to Toshiba for a repair. So I am now stuck using the Win 7, 64 bit computer.

I cannot get the norton toolbar extension for my Firefox 10 on the Win 7 computer. When I go to Addons and extensions, the norton toolbar is not even listed. I have NIS version 19.5.0.145 on this computer (just like the XP compuer had) and have run live update several times just to be sure I am on the latest version of NIS.

I am really frustrated because I rely on the Logins feature in NIS extensiviely. Any suggestions here will be really appreciated.

Bruce,

If W7 is up to date and NIS is up to date and FF is up to date - I'd suggest that you uninstall and reinstall FF. This assumes that you have also rebooted a few times during all of this.

Hope this helps
