I'm troubleshooting an FTP issue on a Windows 7 machine. I'm using a custom .dll that has FTP functionality and it's giving some unexpected error messages when trying to upload files.
I noticed that Norton's firewall is enabled and it also appears that the Windows 7 firewall is also enabled. Is this normal? There is a message that warns me that the Windows Firewall is being managed by Norton and it appears that a lot of feature are disabled. However, I'm still baffled about whether or not the Windows Firewall is supposed to be enabled while running the NIS firewall.
In addition to checking what Phil said, I have actually seen a few occasions including on my own laptop where 1 or 2 of the Windows firewall profiles are somehow left ON and this can indeed cause problems.
Please see the following post and let us know if any of the Windows firewall profiles indicate they are ON.
If you do find any of the 3 profiles are ON, click on Windows Firewall Properties. This will bring up a configuration window. You can then click on the "Domain Profile", "Private Profile" and "Public Profile" tabs in turn and set the Firewall state in each to Off. Then click Apply and OK.
