Windows XP is generating an error message right after boot-up saying "The file or directory \System Volume Information is corrupt and unreadable. Please run Chkdsk utility". It repeats every re-boot and also at irregular intervals during normal use. I have run chkdsk numerous times with different options such as /f and /r and it never finds any problems. I disabled system restore points and the problem still persisted. I then removed NIS using the Norton Removal tool (version 20.0.0.21) and the problem went away. XP no longer generated any error messages. Even after multiple re-boots and extended operation. I then re-installed NIS and XP immediately generated the same error message right when the newly installed NIS was started. It also did so after subsequent re-boots. I am using NIS 20.4.0.40 on Windows XP PRO SP3 on an HP Pavilion laptop with C: formatted as an NTFS file system. I am out of ideas. Need help.
