We are using the most recent version of Norton Internet Security (21.7). We are having a problem with the NIS firewall blocking an application we are trying to run from our server that requires Microsoft SQL Server components that are on the server. With NIS firewall enabled, the application will not load and eventually returns an error indicating that the SQL Server components cannot be loaded. This problem immediately goes away if I manually disable the Norton firewall (application program loads every time without problem).
Can I permanently disable the Norton firewall, then re-enable the Windows firewall? I know to disable the Norton firewall, but the Windows security settings still show as being "managed" by Norton, so I'm not sure if the Windows firewall is running at all. I don't want to disable all firewall protection on this computer.
When NIS is installed on a computer, does it completely shut off (disable) the Windows firewall? I know that Norton "manages" the Windows firewall in that case, but I don't know if it (the Windows firewall) is still operating at all in conjunction with NIS.
Thanks very much.
