For the past several weeks, when I go to disable anti-virus auto protect to play MS Flight Simulator the icon in the system tray does not change to a red x as it is supposed to. It still displays a green checkmark. The main GUI shows it as disabled but not in the system tray.
This happens randomally. Sometimes it shows a red x and other times it won't. Just curious on what might me causing this?

Hi Aviator327,
Have you tried a reboot of your system to try to get rid of one of the Norton Icons?
Also try setting the Enable Boot Time Protection setting to Aggressive.
Let is know if that helps.
Since the task-tray multi-Norton-icon issue is an already documented issue that's yet to be fully resolved by the Norton programming team, another (possible) workaround for your FS usage issues may be solvable using one of the NIS "Silent Mode" settings/configuration options:
From the Main NIS GUI select Settings,
Go to the "General" tab,
Select the "Silent Mode Settings" page - then:
If you are using FS in full-screen mode, verify that "Full Screen Detection" is selected,
If it is not, select it, then try running FS again.
If the option was already selected, or if you selected the setting but still have smoothness issues with FS sessions,
Try manually enabling "Silent Mode", then check your FS operation again.
If enabling the manual silent mode fixes the issue you can make it a permanent rule for FS by,
Use the "User-Specified Programs" option to enter the main FS startup path/program into the "Silent Mode" definitions table.
I hope that something in this info helps your situation.
Kind regards,
John

I had my boot protection set to OFF. Set to Aggressive and rebooted. Now I have just one NIS Icon showing. Thank for the tip.
Glad you got it sorted!

thanks for the reply. Memory usage is the big problem. FSX will run like a snail as long as Norton is active.
Several flight sim communites recommend disabeling anti-virus programs before running FSX. I have followed that procedure for the past 6 years.
