NIS NE 2010 Delay the Shut-down time

Hi all. I have another question about NIS NE 2010. My netbook: Lenovo IdeaPad S10 and i have already installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit on my machine and NIS NE 2010 too. But it seem I have a trouble when i shut down my computer.

When i click Start => Shutdown .  Windows dim the display and i saw something:"Waiting for background program to close" and have 2 buttons: "Force Shutdown" and "Cancel"

I always have to wait about 10 seconds before Windows can shutdown normally. The Program have to wait is "taskhost"...".exe. But When i uninstall NIS 2010,my computer can shut it down really fast and have no problem during shutdown time.

So.What is the problem?

(sr for my bad english(again) )

1. Exit all programs.
2. Click the Start button, and then click All Programs > Accessories > Run.
3. In the Run dialog box, type the following text:
    regedit
4. Click OK.
5. Navigate to the following registry key:
   HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
6. In the right pane, right-click AutoEndTasks, and then click Modify.
7. Change the value from 0 to 1
8. Click OK.
9. Exit the Registry Editor

Sorry,I use Windows 7 Ultimate x86. Not Windows XP :(

Plz,help me...

Hi,

I think the steps should work with Windows 7 as well. Did you try that?

Hi Strike Eagle

I think the more programs you have installed on your netbook, the longer it is going to take to shut down. This may be particularly true considering you are using a netbook. Does your netbook meet the minimum requirements for NIS 2010?

I believe that the option you are after in Windows 7 is:

WaitToKillServiceTimeout.

This is located in 3 locations. ControlSet001, ControlSet002 and CurrentControlSet.

Location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control

Location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Control

Location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control

I would personally drop the values from 12000 to 1200. Hope that helps. PS. You may need a restart for that to take effect.

@flopot:

My Netbook: Lenovo IdeaPad S10

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate

CPU: Intel Atom n270 1.66ghz

RAM:1GB

HDD:160 GB

I think my netbook passed everything NIS NE 2010 required (even NIS/NAV 2010). Have any comment about it?

Cool, glad you found it. Hope reducing the value works to solve the issue you were experiencing.

Different Techs have different opinions in how low to reduce the value to, personally I would not consider going much lower than 1000. :-)
