NIS No Longer Boots After Removal of "Antivirus Soft" virus

I recently contracted the Antivirus Soft virus, which is a spoof AV application that tries to fool you into believing you are infected with a lot of other viruses, and tries to get you to run it (and pay for it's upgrade). I managed to remove it by starting windows in safe mode, and installing RKILL and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware software.

When I run NIS 2010 in Safe Mode, the application starts normally, and will do a complete scan (which finds no issues). But when I start up windows in Normal Mode, Norton refuses to start. Is there anything I can do to fix this issue? I'm hesitant to uninstall NIS, in case I am unable to re-install it. Any help would be appreciated.

I am currently running:

Windows XP, with the latest updates installed;

Norton Internet Security 2010, with patch 17.x.x.x (I think the last number is 19, but I cant be sure)
