Digitalriver was probably what you saw. For NIS 2009, the product in the stores will be the same product that is available for download. As time goes on, there will be updates for both the boxed version and the download version. But no matter which you buy, if you have a valid subscription, you are eligible to download the product updates for no additional charge. Thanks!
I was about to run out on my NAV2008 subscription. I wanted to bump up to NIS2009, but really wanted the disk. So I wound up renewing my NAV2008 subscription for another year just to cover me. I intend to move up to NIS2009 when it hist the retail store shelves. Is the product that reaches the retail stores slightly different than the downloaded or product ordered from the Norton on line store? By different I mean a little more recently tweaked?
Also I notice when I go to the online store that my connection log indicates taht I went to some silverriver .com site or something like that> I knwo river was in the address.
thats what it was, digital river. I knew it had a river in it
What no one has responded to yet is that you bought NIS 2008! Since you want to get the original disk from Symantec, then you will have no choice except to buy that, too, in order to get NIS 2009.
Given that you will end up buying two products (and licenses for six computers, all told), plus the premium for shipping; why didn't you just download NIS 2009, with its 15 day trial period, use it that long and hope that the stores have a CD by then? Worst case: you pay twice anyway. Best case: you save half the cost. Either way, you end up with the better product on your computer sooner!
I don’t have NIS2008. I have NAV2008 and I just renewed my subscription
Sorry, I understand that; but I thought you were moving to NIS 2009.
It's choice; and I'm not going to be presumptuous to tell you what is best for you. But I wanted to make sure you understood the nature of those choices.
As for owning the CD's, I've finally started getting rid of a number of them. I save my keys in Excel, store the info both locally and at a secure online site, and always download the most recent build of software from the publisher. I can reinstall anywhere in the world. Worse case would be my computer can't get an internet connection, so I'd take my memory stick to another computer, download what I needed and put it on mine. I could even keep a bootable memory stick on hand, should I need one; but I don't think I'd bother.
The only exception to this general rule is when purchasing the CD actually gets me something useful I couldn't get otherwise, such as a manual. On the other hand, I haven't found a useful manual in years -- I don't think tech-writers get paid enough (my daughter thinks they don't; and she's one of the best in the industry -- alas, the manuals she writes are for nothing I use).
NY1986…Costco.com now has the retail version of NIS 2009 (3 PC’S) bundled with Norton Save&Restore for $45+FS
mijcar, not sure what you are saying. I know I purchased a renewal for my NAV2008 and that when I buy the NIS2009, I have in reality bought two products. Is that what you mean?
Since you bought a subscription for the Norton Antivirus 2008 version, you are eligible for the free upgrade to the 2009 version. No need to buy the 2009 version again. You can download the Norton Antivirus 2009 from the link NAV 2009. You can burn the 2009 setup to a CD incase if you need it any other time. CD versions are updated with the latest updates, and since you have a valid subscription, you are eligible to download the product when there are any new patches released.
oh I get it. So I could get the NAV2009. But I’m going to get the NIS2009 anyway instead. thansk all for pointing that out. I know I paid more, but hey, I rather be safe than sorry
The CD version, dependent upon release date may or may not be updated from the version available today.
Generally the CD version is not "tweaked" from the most recent download version due to the time required to manufacture, package and distribute the CD's.
The web-based download version is normally the most up to date, because the above mentioned time lag is not required. Any tweaks to the download package can be posted to the Symantec website almost immediately.
However, if you buy the CD, you will still be eligible for any updated versions online.
Digitalriver is the "merchant account" for the Symantec Online Store. It is legitimate.
Hope that helps
