NIS2010 Network Proxy Settings

G`day:______________

My youngest has been toying with the computer ( AGAIN ) , and she says she changed the Network Proxy Setting`s.

She does not know what she changed , if anything.

What I need to know is:

What should the settings be for my connection ?

We are on a dial-up service with www.mts.ca in Canada.

? Automatically detect settings ?

? Use automatic configuration script ?

? Use a proxy server for your HTTP connections ?

? I need authorization to connect through my firewall or proxy server ?

HI Bowwie

It should normally be set to automatic.

I set Network Proxy Settings to `Automatically detect settings`.

Now, Norton Community `File Count` tries to Refresh, then say`s `Offline`

Hi Bowwie

In the Network Proxy Settings page make a note of the current settings and then click on "default all" and check again to see if all is OK (my setting has nothing checked at all).

It may well be that other things have been changed that are not obvious.

Could I suggest you also check with your ISP's support pages to ensure your setup is correct.

The pages for MTS dial-up connections can be found here

Thanks

Hi Bowwie

Glad it worked out. You could set, under miscellaneous settings in NIS2010, Settings Password Protection to On and that should prevent little fingers from changing things - just don't forget your password.

And set the kids up with limited user accounts so that they (and anything they download) cannot make changes to system files and settings.

Or perhaps consider Microsoft Steady State to really tie things down.
