For all blocked sites, NOF offers an option to ask the parent. If the link is entered, a pop-up dialog opens in which the child can ask the parent for this site to be unblocked, and in a small form the reasons for wanting to access it can be entered.
My question is: how exactly is this information communicated to the parent? I have received no such requests from my child. I have tried myself to check things and made a request for a blocked site, but nothing came to the parent account...
Shouldn't I receive an email or something? Nothing is in my spam folders as well...
Child's system is a Win 7 Home Premium 32-bit. Only security software running is the latest version of MSE.
Besides not getting the request to access blocked sites, do you receive email with Subject "Norton Online Family Notification: Blocked Website Visit"?
I tested it myself. If I try to access a blocked website and request to access it. I received to emails. One is with Subject "Norton Online Family Notification: Blocked Website Visit" and the other one is Norton Online Family Notification: Visit Blocked Website Request"
Please also check if you have the Notify settings set up correctly at Settings-> Notify online.
No, I do not receive email with Subject "Norton Online Family Notification: Blocked Website Visit", because I have disabled notifications of this type of messages.
I do not know if the other poster here has configured NOF the same way, but in any case this seems like a bug: receiving REQUESTS for unblocking web sites should always be sent, regardless of the "receive email when user XXXX visits a forbidden location" (not sure about the phrasing in English, using a Greek environment here) setting.
So KatieQ, can you please disable this setting, reboot the client machine and try to reproduce this issue? That is, check if you can send an email request for unblocking the site?
Please do consider that enabling the "receive email when user XXXX visits a forbidden location" emails, will result in a flood of emails sent to me, something I'd definitely like to avoid...
My problem is that I'm not getting notifications at all. I checked the settings for NOF and they are correct. I checked in my inbox, in my spam and in my trash folders and nothing. The only way I knew that there was an attempt to visit a restricted/blocked website was when I checked NOF there were two alerts telling me that an attempt was made.
Please make sure you have the correct settings at Settings -> Notify online.
Also, can you please add another email address to the “Send email notifications to” list at Settings -> Notify, like a yahoo account. If you don’t have it, please create a free account, so you can see if you get the alerts right away or not.
I too have this problem. I don't want it to report blocked sites because so many sites that are blocked are, as I learned from another post I made, "browser prefetching, also known as pre-rendering" and not sites that my child actually looks at. The barrage of notifications about blocked sites being visited was horrendous. Therefore, I disabled it and do not receive his requests.
Grr. I hope this can be resolved, soon, and that perhaps an update will be posted.
