I can while Norton is running right now. However, I will have to check that the next time it does not start after Windows loads.
Once and awhile when I start my computer I find that Norton 360 is not running. The taskbar icon is missing, but I can start Norton from the Norton 360 shortcut in the start menu.
I have no errors in my event log and Norton is not reporting any problems. Thoughts?
I am running Window XP SP3, but I installed Norton 360 for the first time after SP3 was already installed.
Ok

hi Tek - i ran across this recently on an XP SP2 box. in my case, the properties for "hide icons" (right click an empty section of the task bar and select Properties) were corrupt. i was able to restore them by unchecking "Hide Inactive icons".

I just started my machine and there is no Norton icon on the taskbar. I can right-click any file and scan it. Norton will pop right up and run the scan. However, this does not cause my taskbar icon to appear. The only way I can do that is launch the main menu of Norton 360 via the start menu.
Also, I unchecked hide inactive icons and it did not come back. I will leave that off and see if I still have the issue. Any other ideas?
Ok, not it never seems to start-up on its own anymore. After a second reboot I am getting Windows Security alerts saying that firewall is off. I am going to try and uninstall / reinstall.
EDIT: Uninstall / reinstall did not solve the problem. It is still not starting when I boot my PC.
hi Tek - sorry to hear that didn't help. (the WSC alert is very troubling, in that there was no previous report of a problem with functionality and may be indicative of a corrupted installation)
if you download EICAR, does AP catch it? if you use the SSC, is your firewall testing out okay? if both of those are true, i'm thinking it's a taskbar issue... i couldn't find a definitive fix, but did find one or two spots that had things you might try.

Can you do a scan with the right click on your mouse?
