No pulse updates AND weird disk reading error

The tech from Norton did it, and pretty quickly.  I am pretty sure he just used the add/remove programs uninstall.  I downloaded Norton uninstall prior to using the trial version just in case.

Other than these 2 issues (as if I needed anything else) it seems to be running ok.  Just tired of "workarounds" and such- that's why I came here.

Also, I should have mentioned I am running XP Media Center SP3.

BTW, the first tech who "fixed" the problem, to his credit, told me NOT to change the msconfg back to normal startup.  I did, because frankly I think it should work as designed.  That being said, I must admit one of the shining stars of the program for me was the one-click (when it worked).

EDIT:  It now appears the pulse updates are working, but there is no pattern- sometimes a minute, sometimes 10.  Maybe this is normal, I don't know.  However, the one-click support will still not allow me to access help.  It comes with the same "you need at least 15 MB disk space".  That's got me puzzled.

I hate to suggest it, but it sounds like another uninstall/reinstall is necessary.  Something is out of kilter and you shouldn’t need any special adjustments for the software to work.  Period.  I would stay away from the downloaded Norton Uninstall (I assume you mean Norton Removal Tool) and just use the ADD/REMOVE software to do the job.

Maybe I should be more specific: I can manually press live updates, and sometimes it downloads things and sometimes it tells me there is nothing to download.  The definition updates now reads 42 minutes from last update.  Is that just for virus definitions?  If so, is it still functioning correctly?

My apologies for the number/length of questions.

I'll try to answer some of your questions about what is normal:

Once your machine has been left on long enough to get one pulse update, you should get an update every 10 minutes or so. There are various reasons why this can vary up or down from time to time, that is normal. If it consistently takes an hour between updates, however, that would not be normal unless the pulse updates feature was turned off.

If you run manual LiveUpdate, you are inserting an extra update. Depending on when you run it, it may or may not find updates to download. Since it does not reset the normal pulse updates, it is expected that it would vary from 0-10 minutes after a manual LiveUpdate before the next pulse update runs on its own.

I just downloaded this software yesterday to give it at trial run after reading some great reviews.  I am impressed with it's speed and "set and forget", although I do have some problems.

On the initial install, when I tried to update the defintions the system wouldn't complete the installation process of the definitions.  One-clicked support and ten minutes later great. EXCEPT the tech switched my msconfg to boot selectively, leaving out some items that I really need.  Pulse updates worked great.  I changed msconfg back to normal startup, and same problem as before.

One clicked tech support, and eventually re-installed.  Now, manual live updates work, but no pulse update.  The tech said it was Norton servers.

On top of that, apparently I can no longer use the one-click help.  Every time I click it I get the message "you need appx. 15 MB disk space to " use the feature.  I have over 120 gigs free.

I really want to like Norton, but it won't let me.  Can anyone help?

Sounds like something is wrong indeed. How did you uninstall the program?
