Noron 360 Version 5 onlineBackup restore extremely slow 8GB 5 days and counting

Running Norton 360 Ver 5 premium on Vista.

Had to rely on Noton onlione storage to restore full email on one of our computers. Went back and forth with techs (uninstalled, reinstalled, said to wait till next day, server notr sync'ed etc, etc,) and finally insisited ona case manager / supervisor every time I try chat.

finally got to a point where 1 email was restored (took about 1 hour).

Started restoring email on Tuesday night (online restore to computer hard wired) and restore has been running since. Indicator bar says restore in progree and server preparing restore.

All they say on Norton tech chat is wait..... My download speed is @42mbps and upload @32 mbps.

Too long!

Something is definitely not right with that.  I would recommend cancelling the restore and starting over.

I was going to restart but evry time I chat with Norton Tech they said to wait. I am at seven days and counting. Extremely frustrating. Today a manger was supposed to call at 4:30 EST. Never happened and now I am back in the seven circles of chat hell.

Welcome

I'm with Delphinium on this one. Shut down and start over. I'd be upset if it took eight HOURS for eight gigs.

Hello mapadot

Sorry for the inconvenience you are facing while restoring files.

There are 3 ways by which you can restore files from Online Backup :

1. One is through the site http://n360.backup.com/  where you can login using your Norton Account credentials and then begin the Restore process

2. Next is via the Restore Files UI where you should choose the Online Backupset and then begin the Restore process

3. Third option is via the Norton Backup Drive which is present in your Windows Explorer. You can view the files that you backed up to Secure Online Storage. You must be connected to the Internet and logged in to Norton Account.

Please try the other options if one is not working.

As it involves Online Storage, restoring huge bunch of files may cause some issue. Its advisable to choose small set (Of minimum size) of files for restore. Once this being successful you can start with the next set.

Hope this solves your problem.

Thanks

Kavitha

Sorry, Kavitha - Your solution is more of the same --- try something else and hope... I had done all of those steps with Norton techs.

THE solution.

Got a hold of a tech and we ran a few tests for restoring small batches of files.

Restored 50 Mb and it took @ 40 minutes. I extrapolated time and thought it would take 5 days at that rate. I restarted restore from my desktop that is hardwired to router ( no wireless).

After going through @ 8 techs and endless searching on the internet - This one tech took the critical step ----

MAKE SURE THE POWER settings are changed so that the PC never sleeps during the restore! The restore starts at 0.2 % and sat there overnight and started restoring files (@86,000) in the AM. The restore process took until the late afternoon. Total time to restore files @ 24 hours for 8 GB.

Now I just have to figure out the best way to copy all files over to vista mail....

I'm glad you found the solution but I don't see any reason not to thank people for trying to help when it wasn't a Norton problem but in your computer's Windows settings .........

Anyway we can try to remember that setting in future.
