Ok basicaly i brought norton seceruity 2010 today. Now ive instaled and registered it to my PC. I have the 3PCs one. Now ive just also brought a brand spanking new samsung nc110 netbok. Being a netbook it doesnt have a cdrom drive. So i cant insert the cd to instal it onto the netbook. Anyway i manged to get the software on there with a trial downloading it from this site. Now when i go to renew it it using the one i got today it says invaled product key. Why is this? Ive only used the key once and i can use it another two times. Anyone help. Thanks in advance.
What product did you d/l for the Netbook? Is it the same version of the product that you have on your desktop? I believe if you got the netbook version, that has a different license.
Symantec should really change that ruling, but I guess they haven't as yet. Most people who have a netbook also have pc's. They should be considered almost like a laptop. I realize though that the netbook version includes a pen drive since there are no cd drives in a netbook. A lot of people are getting netbooks to use when they are travelling since they are so much lighter than even a laptop.
Yep its a diferent version. If thats the case then that is a very stupid way. No one told me this when i brought it, i asked can i use on pc and netbok and response was yes. Thanks for the replies anyway. I’ll shall give them a call and hopefuly come to a agrement.
Yes, it is a rather awkward situation at the moment where the product keys are concerned. The fastest way to get this resolved is to contact Symantec Customer Support and chat with them. Please tell us how it goes - thank you :-)
The best way to contact them is to chat with them in the sense of talking to a support agent in a chatroom at the link I have already indicated (indicated below again). This is the fastest way to resolve your problem.

Damage -- note that you can use the normal NIS version on a netbook functionally but there are some differences in the netbook version that include, I think, firstly that the range of resolutions it handles better matches the resolutions on the smaller netbooks so the GUI looks better.
Then some background actions only take place when you are connected to external power and not while running on battery.
And then of course there is that the boxed version comes on a USB thumbdrive and not on a CD.
I don't have a netbook so I've not tried the normal version on netbook but that has been done and there are some messages here about this and some of the settings you can tweak on the normal version for netbook use.
I have run the netbook version experimentally on my desktop testbed and it seemed quite normal!
Hope that helps and do please let us know how you get on with Customer Support -- do press the point about how much better it owuld be if the normal key would activate the downloaded netbook version and then they would save the cost of the thumbdrive <g>
Just popped through to say its all sorted. Thanks for the quick responses. The chat box for customer service was great. He took remote control of the netbook and sorted the problem. Basically the norton that comes with the netbook is the netbook version so he uninstalled that and installed the norton security 2010 the same one as my pc. So i now have it on both. Very please. Thanks for everyones help. Great community.
Unless someone can pinpoint the message(s) you might try searching in this NIS/NAV Forum on [ netbook ] and see if you can find the messages. I think the one on the differences was from one of the Norton Staff, Tim, so his name would be in red.
Also have a look in Tech Outpost but I think it is all in here.
