Norton 360 2.0 didn't detect Virus

Hello. After going back & forth with the Chat analysts from Norton they finally uninstalled my Norton 360 2.0

Now I have version 3.0 however when I try to click on support I can no longer get to them because of some connectivity Issue. I have to go to there site directly & initiate a Chat session with them. The reason for all these problems is that Norton 360 2.0 failed to detect this  Virus  trojan-phisher-sabanks.gen

Luckily Spy sweeper detected It & was In quarantine. I had to uninstall Spy Sweeper as well. I reinstalled It & redid a Full Sweep & I no longer see this Virus show up in the scan. My question to anyone who would like to answer is how come I don't even see this VIRUS listed on Symantec website. It has no knowledge of this Virus. Has anyone heard of this Virus? I'm going to do a comprehensive scan once again on Norton 360 to see if this Virus shows up In there Scan. Should I disable Spy sweeper while scanning with Norton 360?

Thank you

Mark

Hi TheReMarkAble1,

Please download malwarebyte antimalware and install it on your PC. Update the software and then run a full scan.

I pretty sure that Spy Sweeper already quarantine the infected file.

Also, have two antivirus with auto protection can be dangerous for your PC. My recommendation is to uninstall Spy Sweeper and install malwarebytes antimalware [free edition].

I hope this help,

Hi, TheReMarkAble1,

Welcome to the Norton Community!

I would suggest Completely un-installing SpySweeper from you sysytem and just have Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.  Please be advised that Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware provided is the free edition and can be kept on your computer for future use; just remember to Update and Dis-Connect from the Internet before doing any Anti-Virus Scan(s).

If you want, you could re-store the Threat and Submit the Files to symantec Security Response: https://submit.symantec.com/websubmit/retail.cgi; symantec Security Response may not have Detected this Threat yet.  Then go in to Safe Mode and do a Full Scan of all Drivers with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, Dis-Connected from the Internet; this should be followed up with a Full Scan in Normal Mode and you should not Connect to the Internet again until the Scan in Normal Mode has been Completed, as well as a Full Scan in Safe Mode.

Please let us know how you get on.

Hi,

I don't have Two Virus programs. Spy sweeper is just for the Spyware. When I had to renew my subscription to Norton 360 last Dec. I did just that. However I didn't renew my subscription to Spy Sweeper . I was told by a few people that while do Scans which ever anti Virus you have they do not catch everything. The tech guys at C.C told me that I should have 2 Spyware programs just In case one doesn't catch something. So I bought the Spy Sweeper once again & It did catch something that Norton 360 didn't. It was a DSSagent.

So now I do believe that It is good to have 2 of these programs just In case 1 doesn't catch something also i was told that Webroot spy Sweeper is owned by Symantec

Thanks for your help

Mark

I am a little annoyed and just about given up on this sort of problem. I have had Spy Sweeper from Webroot for about 3 years and it ran perfectly well with Norton Internet Security 2007/8. On my last renewal I subscribed to Norton 360 which I think was version 1 as I used to have Systemworks and it seemed like it was going to be better to have the one program rather than NIS and Systemworks. Spy Sweeper worked perfectly well with 360 until version 3 came along.

When this was reported all we get from the forum is that we should uninstall Spy Sweeper and then everything goes quiet. This is obviously a problem that the new version of Norton products has caused and it is annoying that in particular Symantec Employees wipe their hands of the problem, it cannot be beyond the skills of the experts to sort this out.

Why should we give up what is in my case over 12 months of paid subscription to Webroot just because something in a Norton product has caused the 2 not to work properly together. The engineer at Webroot did try to be helpful and even called me to have a chat and made a few suggestions to try to fix this which is more than Norton has done in this situation.

If we all went to free versions of everything where would the large companies be where we pay for their products, surely we should expect something from actually paying for their products.

Having said the above Symantec Employees have been helpful in the past and no doubt will be in the future.

Virus trojan-phisher-sabanks.gen appears to have been a false positive from Spysweeper.

 (Or try googling it.)

There's no official public confirmation from Webroot that this is the case though.
