Norton 360 and Outlook 2013

Using the N360 antispam plugin with Outlook 2013 causes the identity vault to "Require Restart" and crashes N360--the icon on the taskbar disappears and the program will no longer launch.

Using Windows 8 64 bit, Norton 360 Premier version 20.3.1.22, and MS Outlook 2013.

I have the latest updates. I have uninstalled N360 using the Removal Tool and reinstalled twice. Each time I have updated N360 and applied all "Patches."

Right now I have disabled the email filter/antispam plugin in Outlook. This is an important feature for me, so I am not satisfied with this solution.

Please help.

Hi,

Version 20.4 is in controlled release at this time. As the team gets more feedback on it the restrictions will be removed and it will be available to everyone.

Stay tuned

Just patched. Now version 20.4. Norton Antispam still crashes the vault, then N360 shortly after. No improvement with Windows 8 compatibility.

I know someone will tell me to use Norton Removal Tool and reinstall (again!), but I have no patience right now.

N360 V5 is better with windows 8 then the newer versions.

Well, that's fantastic. Upgrade your operating system to use N360 built for Windows XP. Very cutting edge.

I had been having this type of problem with 20.3.x.x and awaited the 20.4.x.x update for over a month and a half.  The update came yesterday and the problem still exists.  I am running Windows 8 and MS Office (Outlook) 2013.  When I turn on the Client Integration in the Antispam settings. I can re-create the problem.  The indicator of the issue is that the icon for Norton disappears from the system tray and it cannot be restarted by any means other than restarting Windows.  Sometimes it takes multiple sessions of Outlook before the Norton icon disappears.  The workaround now is to turn off the Antispam integration of Outlook and the contacts list.

Hi rtbauer,

From your mention of awating for the 20.4.0.40 update - can I assume you are on Comcast Norton Securtiy Suite?

I am not on Win 8, nor do I use MS Office (Outlook) 2013 - but I do not see anything in the 20.4.0.40 update announcement that says the update fixed the problem this thread concerns.

Perhaps someone else can add more info.

Yes, I am on Comcast Norton 360.  I thought there was a post with a suggestion that 20.4.0.40 was going to address the Outlook 2013 issue.  The "awaiting" part of my message was specifically abut the fact that the forum mentioned that 20.4.x.x came out on 6/4/13 and even though I did many manual Live Updates, I didn't get 20.4.0.40 until a couple of days ago.

The release of 20.4.x.x. on 6/4/13 was for the mainstream Norton Products. The version of Norton Security Suite from Comcast is, unfortunately, usually a few weeks or more behind.

The Link in Yank's post above outlines what was included with that patch. As Yank says, there is no mention of the Outlook issue.

Thank you for your reply.  I see from the announcement link the fixes that are in 20.4.0.40.  I have read posts of others that are experiencing what I am seeing.  How do we officially report this issue that can be recreated?

Norton Employees, those whose names are in bold red letters, read these forums daily. I have seen this issue reported, and even though the employees do not comment, the information is given to the correct teams for fixing.

I'm having the exact same problem rtbauer is having. I've created a new post and responded to another one. It appears that if you have 64 bit operating system and Outlook, the update won't fix the problem regarding the disappearing system tray icon when opening and closing Outlook. So I've just kept the Antispam feature disabled. Not sure why 64 bit isn't supported.

It is not the 64 bit OS causing the problem but the 64 bit version of MS Office. If you google 64 bit office, you should be able to find information on what advantages if any you will get from the 64 bit versions. IIRC you only need 64 bit Office if you are using huge Excel or Access files.

Personally I only use the 32 bit version of Office, and would suggest you might want to uninstall and then reinstall the 32 bit.

I'll have to check when I get home, but I don't know for sure that I have the 64-bit Office installed. I installed online and don't remember making a decision between 32-bit and 64-bit. I'll check back in here tonight which version I have.

I checked my version of Office 2013 installed and it is 32-bit (Windows 8 is 64-bit). So I'm still having issues with Norton system tray icon disappearing when I open and close Outlook numerous times unless I disable the antispam feature for Outlook.

I too have checked and my MS Outlook 2013 is installed as a 32 bit configuration.  Also my Operating System is Win 8 Pro 64bit.  Same exact issue... Antispam integration turned on in 360 and the Norton System Tray icon goes away after several openings of Outlook.

Anything new on this subject?
