Norton 360 and steam

I bought a new pc and amongst other things we play games through 'Steam'

Norton was pre-installed on the pc for a trial period and all the games that run through Steam worked fine right up until the free peroid expired.

I then subscribed and bought the Norton package.

Now Steam starts but no game will launch  - just the thinking circle and then nothing.

I think one of my main problems will be that the experts will tell me to change settings I know nothing about.

So if there is a fix please make the language used understandable to a layman.

I think it's too much of a coincidence for the issue not to be related to my subscribing.

Thanks

Hi Thanks for the respone.

1/ Norton is the latest

2/ Re-started steam lots

3/ If I uninstall steam will I loose the installed games that I'm half way through?

I don't think you will, but I'm not sure. Remember that if you uninstall a game through Steam, it asks if you want to delete Local Content, I.E. the actual installed and downloaded game, save files, etc. If you're JUST uninstalling Steam, I don't think it will affect any Local Content, but I might be wrong, however....

If I understand it correctly, if you downloaded and/or purchased a game through Steam, it's attributed to your account via the Steam Wallet and all that. It's how they keep track of Steam Achievements and things. Even if I were to uninstall let's say, Skyrim, I THINK it still remembers that yes, I paid for Skyrim, and I 'own' a copy of it. So whenever I need to re-download, I merely choose that title from my library and it will re-download. What games you play, what achievements you have, all of that is tied into your Steam account. There's also data that is stored on their Cloud, which Steam regularly syncs your updated stuff to your little corner of the Cloud, I'd imagine for cases just like this.

If you're deathly afraid of loosing save-game files, you can always look into the files on your computer where the game is actually installed, and like with any game there SHOULD be a 'Saves' folder or something similar that you could simply make a copy of everything in that folder, put it to your desktop, and then if worst comes to worst you just move everything back into the folder. No garuntees that would work, but honestly I don't think you'll have a problem in the first place.

If re-installing does not help, I'd suggest contacting Valve's customer support to see what they can do or if they know the problem. If they claim it's a Norton thing, talk to Customer Support directly. Eventually you'll get somewhere.
