Norton 360 and the Missing Basic Filtering Engine

Reinstalled Norton 360 on Saturday.  Had a flurry of activity when I got hit by a trojan. History attachedl  360 told me I was safe.  However, got a 5013,3 error.  Followed instructions given by Norton and ran the Eraser.  Got a OK.  Error still persisted so I tried a system restore.  Restore was unsuccessful.  Said I needed to disable any virus programs.  Disabled 360 and firewall and repeated system restore.  Still unsuccessful.  Now 360 tells me the Basic Filtering Engine is missing.  No word yet from Microsoft.

I got this message from Norton:

We have detected that the Windows Base Filtering Engine Service is not running on your computer

We have detected that the Windows Base Filtering Engine service is not running. This service is required for the Norton Firewall to function correctly. Since the Base Filtering Engine is a Windows component you need to replace or update that component from a certified Windows technician. To replace this component, contact Microsoft support.

Any assistance in resolving the missing BFE is appreciated.
