Norton 360 app vs Secure VPN app

Is there a difference between the Norton 360 app (VPN section) and Norton Secure VPN app for android? I have them both loaded on my Galaxy Ultra S24 and sometimes the 360 app will say VPN is off but Norton Secure VPN will say it's on and vice versa. Shouldn't one app recognize if the other app has the VPN on? They are both Norton products after all.

Thanks

All: @GaryRT In your instance. The difference between the Norton Secure VPN and the Norton 360 is that the Norton Secure VPN is a VPN only, whereas the Norton 360 is an all-in-one solution. Norton 360 itself cannot be installed on iOS or Android, conversely you can activate the Android or iOS app using a license seat from your N360 subscription. I do so with my Galaxy Z-Flip 5 and Z-Fold 4 under my Norton Security Ultra subscription.

@KTCdm In your case you have a WiFi connected mobile device and I am assuming the W11 device is as well. This is your iOS screenshot:

Because your mobile device can use two different networks, your provider and your local WiFi. Your network becomes the secured connection unless you change it manually and therefore you stay protected regardless.

With Windows 11, have a look at this Microsoft article, lets see if it makes any difference in what you are now seeing:

All: Thanks for the tag peterweb. I will give my Windows 11 machine a boot shortly and try to get some information back here and posted on the thread for everyone. wink

As the VPN coding is different for Windows and mobile devices, there can be differences with how they detect and react to connected networks.

As I do not have a Win 11 system, I'll ask @SoulAsylum to check here with any Win 11 insight he may have on this question.

Thank you.  Then why do they behave differently on home private, secured network?  Wouldn't VPN be OFF for both W11 and iOS when at home?

@KTCdm

VPN settings for Norton 360 are controlled from within the app itself. Windows and iOS settings do not control the VPN feature.

I have W11 laptop and iPhone IOS 17.5 and a current Norton 360 subscription.   When on my secured private home network my iPhone Norton shows VPN off because network is secure.  However, on W11 laptop, if VPN is off it shows my connection is unsecured.  If I turn it on, I have problems sending (not receiving) emails. Attached are the settings from iPhone and W11 devices.  They are different.  Is there a way or setting so that they behave the same when on secured home network and on public unsecured networks?  Thanks.

The two apps are from different Norton teams and the two apps do not communicate with each other. If you are having no issues with the 360 VPN feature, it is recommended to uninstall the standalone app as there can be some strange behaviours caused by having both installed.
