My Norton 360 account is active thru May 31, 2013.

The exact message is:  Please log on to Norton account and activate your online backup subscription.

And, yes, I've run all the updates, restarted multiple times, and successfully executed Norton AutoFix (with no problems detected).  I even created a test Word doc to ensure there was something brand new to back up.

Sorry, but I think there's something else wrong and this is really consuming way too much time and effort --- not to mention a disappointing outcome given how expensive the Norton subscription has become.

All you need to do is the following:

  1. Open Norton 360's main client from the system tray icon or from the desktop shortcut.
  2. Click on Backup.
  3. Click on Restore Files from the list of options.
  4. There should be an option to Activate from there which will activate the online backup piece again.

I am experiencing the identical problem as described by the above users. The failure error (need to logon) appears on my computer and my wife's--I have lots of available storage, never received this error in all the years I've had N360 and this problem has appeared after the latest major update.

I first attempted to follow the instructions on the error: "Please log on to Norton account and activate your online backup subscription". I clicked on the My Account on the main Norton screen, activate backup, your site opened, I logged in and I was offered no opportunity to 'activate'. There was a listing of my backup sets with Backup Now and Settings greyed out and File Actions in Yellow offering 2 options having nothing to do with the problem.

Second, I attempted the advise you offered to the previous customer but there was no Activate option after clicking Restore--just the normal options one would presume to find under a restore option.

Kindly provide instructions.

Alright. The other method you can try is:

  • Open Norton 360.
  • Click on the Backup option so it gives you the list of choices.
  • Click on Restore Files
  • There will be a refresh option. Click that and it should connect and download past history.

The solution described missed a couple of steps.

  • Open Norton 360.
  • Click on the Backup option so it gives you the list of choices.
  • Click on Restore Files
  •  Then you should click on "VIEW ALL" (on step 1 Restore From) on that next page.  There you are given the option for refresh.  I also had the option to activate my online backup subscription.

I tried what you suggested but I still get this error message:

"We are unable to proceed with Norton Account at this time.  Please try again later."

I've been trying again for weeks but the problem still persists.  Help!

I renewed my membership back in July 2012.  Today I was supicious after reading all these posts so I looked at my Online account on Norton.com and found an OLD filename xxxJUL272012....PROBLEM IS I'VE BEEN RENAMING MY BACKUP FILES every month...newest filename within Norton360 under Backup is xxxNOV252012.

so, looks like the Backups have NOT been saved online even though they complete with no errors on my laptop.

When I renewed, I had to use another email address to login. IT HAPPENS. ISPs go out of business or you get a better deal with another so instead of '@rcn.com'   I'm @verizon.net . My neighbor seems to think this may be the issue that put me out of synch.

How can I be assured that I actually DO have an Online Backup within my Norton360 susbscription that is working?
