I have a Win XP pro desktop that I installed N360 on. I also have an external USB hard drive for it. When I go into Backup/Manage backup to copy the internal hard drive to the external drive I find that the external drive is not listed under the backup destinations. I have gone thru several online chat sessions with the support group but have not gotten any results. I am currently using Acronis to backup my internal drive to the external.

Yes, Norton 360 V2 and Win XP sp 2. The usb drive is a Maxtor 3200.

Did you try hitting the Refresh Destinations link at the bottom left of the Backup Destinations screen?

many times, still doesn’t show the external drive

I had this problem with N360 not recognizing my DVD drive. I ended up contacting phone support, was eventually escalated to a level 3 tech, who in the end uploaded all logs and took notes of my DVD drive make and version, after running firmware updates for the DVD drive. These were then forwarded to the Research team.

I requested he phone me back in 5 days with an update, so he booked a time and called back on the dot. It took a couple of weeks of this, with the tech calling me back at intervals which I requested (he was really very good), and in the end they came out with a patch which I got through Live Update.

I suggest if you have no success on here, you should try as I did.

Good luck  :smileywink:

How big a drive is this? How is it formatted? Can you see the drive from windows (I would assume yes to this).

Do you have any type of "virtual cd rom" software loaded such as Deamon Tools? I have seen an instance where this caused some issues with DVD  and USB drives.

This is what happened as part of my case, I wonder if it was the same one you refer to..this was in the earlier days of V1, and a patch came out which resolved my issue of recognizing the drive.

Are you running Norton 360 v2, and Windows XP sp2? Or other versions? It might also be helpful to know which USB drive (make and model) you are using. I agree - this seems like it should work just fine, so any additional information you can provide about your system setup is appreciated. Thanks!
