I can't seem to figure out why Norton 360 (ver. 20.2.0.19) continually fails to backup to my network drive. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) and have an Asus RT-N56U router with a WD 2TB drive connected to the router. I then have drive letter Z: mapped to the 2TB network drive in Windows. When I try to have Norton 360 backup to the drive, it fails in the same manner every time where the very first 2 files are backed up and then I receive a failed indication on the next 2 files that are attempted to be backed up which is where Norton 360 then discontinues attempting the backup and deems the job failed.
I've ran Noron's AutoFix and it finds no issues. I've also tried to make sure that the drive is accessible at the time the backup is occurring by having a window open to the drive where I am continually exploring other folders on the network drive without issue.
The specific error Norton provides seems to be a common catch all one that I've seen in the forum which is "There is a backup problem. Make sure the destination drive or device is connected and then try again."
I've also deleted my backup set and have re-created it as suggested in the forums which does not rectify the issue. I've ran LiveUpdate to make sure I have all the latest/greatest "goodies" from Norton, but this doesn't seem to have an impact either. I've tried the backup on my local network over both a wired and wireless connection, but still see the same issue. I have even gone to the extent to format the drive as NTFS and ext3, but still see the same error in either case. I should also mention, that since Norton does backup the first 2 files successfully, I do see the N360_BACKUP folder successfully created on my network drive with sub-directories underneath. I have not uninstalled/re-installed Norton 360 at this point as frankly, I think it's absurd that I'd have to go to that extent to resolve an issue of this nature. So, I'm interested to see if anyone here may have already solved this issue or have an idea of something else I can try that I may not already have done.
One other observation I wanted to mention as well is when looking at the Security History log in Norton, approximately 10 seconds prior to each backup failure event, there is also an Unauthorized access blocked (Access Process Data) security event. It indicates that C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONHOST.EXE is the "Actor" and the "Target" is C:\Program Files (x86)\Norton 360\Engine64\20.2.0.19\buvss.exe with an "Action" of "Access Process Data" and "Reaction" of "Unauthorized access blocked". I wasn't sure if this has anything to do with the failure, but wanted to mention it just in case.
