Norton 360 continuously crashes Mac on Sequoia 15.0

Issue abstract: Ever since I updated my Mac to Sequoia 15.0, the computer crashes every so often and the bug report that comes up when it restarts points to a Norton extension. Uninstalling Norton 360 and rebooting corrects the problem.

Product & version number: Norton 360 8.9.3 build 35

OS details: Mac OS Sequoia 15.0

What is the error message you are seeing? Computer crashes. Bug report indicates a Norton system extension is causing the problem.

I had the exact same problem and when I contacted Apple support center this morning, they told me to uninstall the Norton 360. Since then my computer is stable but I wonder if I can’t install the Norton back to my iMac. What did you do with yours?

Fortunately, it’s working fine on my M2 Max MacBook Pro. Though I can see crashes in the console even today too but no such issues as you have mentioned. It would be better if you can specify your Mac’s specification too.

For now, I uninstalled it and left it off. I was waiting to see if there was an updated version of Norton that would fix the issue before trying to re-install.

Sorry - I should have done that in my original post. I’m running it on an iMac, 27 inch 2020, 3.3 Ghz 6-core Intel i5. 16 GB RAM.

Maybe it has something to do with Intel vs M?

I didn’t save the crash report but I did click the button to send to Apple. Not sure how I can try and capture what the actual error codes were so I can share.

I can see Norton service manager and com.symantec.mes.systemextension crashing in the console since they recently rolled out an update to Norton 360. @Norton please fix your app.

@Gayathri_R Rather than ignoring these messages, please fix your software!!

Thank you for reporting this behaviour. We are looking into it.

If you need those crash logs, I can uploaded them on my Google drive. I can see Norton service manager crashing today too.

MacBook Pro with M1 here, to be clear, my internet connection repeatedly drops. This happened after the latest upgrade to Sequoia 15. I hope there is a fix soon.

Continue to have issues on new OS, scan errors, live update note running, computer at risk messages. Getting close to moving to back to intego

Thank you for your reply. I asked Norton support center (in Japan) what to do and they just told me to uninstall the product and wait for a week.
In the meantime they said that they would fix the product so when I reinstall it after a week, hopefully it would be compatible with my iMac(Sequoia 15.0.1). It’s been more than two weeks since I uninstalled Norton 360 and I decided to reinstall it. Now it seems like the computer doesn’t crash anymore, but it just doesn’t seem to work with Facetime. Whenever I use Facetime it freezes every 10 minutes or so.
I wonder if anyone else has the same problem…

Hello all,
A few weeks ago I got the new version with new UI of Norton 360. It’s very stable and no crashes at all, not even in the console. It looks like Norton has not rolled out that version to all the users. They have added a few new features to macOS users too.

I am having similar issues with the Endpoint Security Extension Norton 360.app. For me it is crashing programs or just interrupting music streaming from the internet. Most pronounced in Apple’s Music app, but it also is crashing music streams from misc. web browsers. The solution appears to be disabling Settings/General/Login Items & Extensions/Endpoint Security Extensions/Norton 360.app. This is basically breaking Norton 360 for me for the moment. – Update: Running Apple MBP M1 Max.

Update: I ran the update to v.24.9.2 of Norton last night with the new UI. Interruption of music streaming still happening, but less pronounced.
