While looking at settings today I noticed that some settings cannot be changed. The note at the bottom (image attached) says that the computer needs to be restarted.
I expect to receive a Windows notification from Norton 360 if the computer needs to be restarted to install an update or complete an operation. I only restart my computer when necessary.
While investigating, I also noticed that version 22.23.9.9 is available, but the version running is 22.23.8.4 and I do not know if this is waiting for a reboot or if live update has not downloaded it.
I expect Norton 360 to keep my computer protected and to keep itself up to date. Apparently this is not happening. In cases where I need to do something to make sure Norton 360 is working properly I must be notified!
Hello Julie. Norton is protecting you as it should. This issue has been seen before, usually the setting in the below screenshot is the culprit. Please check yours and see if they match as shown below. Set 'apply updates only on reboot" to off. If then there are updates where Norton requires a restart you should be prompted to do so. Otherwise update will be applied automatically with this setting in place. Please keep in mind that not all Norton updates will require a restart of the machine. And version 22.23.9.9 is the latest version of Norton available. A restart should correct the issue.
i have never known norton to display some pop up or notice to restart ( nothing like a windows update for example)
its generally a good idea to restart your device atleast weekly at minimum, this refreshes the memory
generally if you get a big update(s) its good to restart after ( also applies to any driver update)
if norton auto update is set to on you should be getting the newest build/patch , you can to be safe at times run the live update manually
also after a build /patch it sometimes will tell you a restart is needed ( not always) but its generally a good idea to click apply patch let it do its thing and run live update again
sometimes its can take a few patch applies for it to work right , but yes after those you will need to restart
