Norton 360 doesn't play nice w/Windows 7 anymore

Something was hanging my system up BADLY all of a sudden (keystroke and menu delays, browser and software hangs, memory drain, nothing was working right) could not figure it out what was causing it, tho both Windows and Norton 360 had just updated, 360 seemed to have all but disappeared from my system. The program was listed in Explorer, but not in systray (where I put it) and wouldn't open manually from Explorer. Thinking one of the updates didn't 'take' and may be the cause of OS problems, I restored to point just prior to Windows update and natch, everything was working fine. Then manually updated 360. Immediately, same thing happens. System is basically unusable, almost ALL memory being devoted to services I'm not really familiar with and Norton 360 missing from systray. Right now my computer is working perfectly with the latest Windows 7 update, and no Norton services that I can see (or that Windows can find). Why is this happening? How can I upgrade to Windows 10 when I can't even get 7 to play with 360?  I seem to be in this viscous circle of restoring, updating, restoring. I've used several Norton products (a la carte style) over the years with success and never had issues. 360 is the first to cause system problems (assuming it IS the problem, but at this point I must), and I'm not surprised to see I'm not alone.
