Norton 360 Error Message 8506, 421

I have seen multiple post for this error issue in this community. After installing and reinstalling Norton 360 (6 Times), I still get the error message. I finally went with the live support and had a support tech uninstall and restart Norton 360. That was supposed to have fixed the issue. Yesterday, BAM, here we go again, Error message 8506, 421. Autofix cannot find a solution for the problem and recommends opening a case. Tried that, no help. Now this is the last straw, this morning my wife's laptop received the same error. I want to stay with Norton, but come on guys, you obviously know about the issue and have not developed a fix. My renewal is coming up and I need to make a decision. Thanks for any help for myself and the rest of the Norton 360 subscribers.

Hi Sergeant19,

Which version of Norton 360 do you use? Do you have anyother security products installed in your computer? Can you try running Windows Updates to get latest security updates?

In meantime, I would also suggest to use Norton Power Eraser:

Thanks,

HarryP

I have Norton 360 Ver 20.1.1.2. I have uninstalled and reinstalled this product myself and also had a tech in Norton Chat uninstall and reinstall 360. I am still getting this error message. Now my wife's laptop is getting the same error message.

Yes we used the Norton Removal Tool each time that we uninstalled and then reinstalled the Norton 360. When I start my computer, this error comes up and Norton 360 attempts to do an Autofix, however, it appears that Norton is running as I have a green checked mark icon in the bottom right corner of my taskbar.

Sorry for another post, yes I have Malwarebytes and have used it also.

Hi Sergeant319,

A couple of qustions:

Have you run the Norton Power Erasers as HarryP suggested?  If so what were the results?

Also HarryP asked if you have any other Security Programs installed. and if Windows Update is current.  I don't see any answers to those qustions either.

Now I am curious how long you have had N 360 installed on your systems and also which AntiVirus program you were using prior to initially installing N 360?  Also if yu were using an AV that did not include a firewall - which firewall were you using.

If you upgraded to N 360 from version 6, did you do a clean install or an over the top install?

You really have to try to answer all our questions, s the answers will give us an idea of the present condition of your system andin the long run make it easier to assist you.

If you go back to v6, does that work ok ?

Did not Run Norton Power Eraser, but I would think that the Norton tech rep may have tried that. I am not running any other AV programs. There are so many people who are having this same error message, I would think that Norton would try to come up with a patch to fix it.. Sorry, I am getting a little frustrated with Norton, but I appreciate you trying to help.

I repeat:

I can understand your frustration and the added presure of renewal time approaching.  Unfortunately, not all 8506, 421 errors have the same corrective action - this can vary from system to system - that is why the more we get answeres to the better we can understand your situation and help you.  Since the solutons vary also, it might be impossibkle to produce a "fix" that wuld handle all the differences in errors and systems.

Long time ago I have McAfee A V, then I changed to Norton A V,  I have been using Norton 360 for about 3 years now. These error messages just started within the last 3 months. I install any updates when I am notified by Norton that there is an update available. I am wondering if that has anything to do with any Windows updates, could they be causing the problem. I also ran a Full Malwarebyte scan yesterday. It took six hours with no infections or malware found. Norton 360 is the only A V program that I use on my computer. Even though I still get the error message, it appears that Norton 360 is working because I have the small icon with the green check mark in the bottom right hand corner. Here is one symptom I have also noticed. I downloaded a popular file CCleaner.exe. Norton scans the file and indicates that the file has no reputation. This has come up with other reputable files that I downloaded like Adobe Flashplayer. I appreciate your patience and assistance.

What operating system and service pack are you using?

There could still be remnants of McAfee on your system that could be conflicting with the current version of 360. Check the list of uninstallers on this page and download and run the uninstaller for McAfee.

Then download and run the Norton Removal and Reinstall tool from   www.norton.com/nrnr

Be sure to run LiveUpdate manually a few times, rebooting as necessary, until no updates are available.
